I was in Austin this weekend for the NCAA track & field meet and I was walking between the football stadium and the track stadium and someone had parked their California and left, and left it running, and it was there for a while. I walked down to the police officer who was on security detail, and asked him about it, he said it had been there for a while, and he was thinking about taking it :) It was a beautiful car.

Not that I've noticed. Maybe it's an Austin thing. Lots of West Coast transplants down there. :)

We do usually leave our Californias parked, running, and unattended in Austin. What's the big deal? I mean, jeez, it's not a Ferrari TEXAS... ;)

Seriously, I leave the keys in mine.....maybe not RUNNING!

But a thief would bring it right back , when they see an estimate for repair.

I've seen it. I was leaving Fogo d Chao once when this guy pulled up to the valet station in a 911 Turbo. No valet so he looked around for half a second and then just walked into the restaurant. Door still open, engine running. Since I lived around the corner at the time, it occurred to me that I could have it in my garage before he even knew it was gone. Sure I could never get it registered, but it would have made a great free track car.

Assuming the windows were up I've seen this many places. I believe it's an attempt to keep the AC in the car cool. When I drop my kid at school and walk in there is usually one or two cars empty and running. I think the doors can be locked in this situation. It may be a Houston thing.

Heh. Hell, I don't even leave the keys in my house when I'm gone in my daily driver. They're always in my pocket. I figure if someone breaks into my house I'm not going to leave the keys to the red toy in the garage for them to take too. ;)

Worked with a guy many years ago who was attempting to get rid of his old convertible, so that he could get a new one. He would leave the top down and keys in the ignition. Never got stolen.

Usually see it when someone leaves a dog or child in the car on hot days. All the Dallas area mercedes have the car running with the A/C keeping a stupid yappy Pomeranian cool in the front seat.
