OK, so a new F430 shows up a CC yesterday. I spoke to the owner about his impression and he was thrilled with handling and performance. His comments were that the 430 seems smoother suspension wise. Other than that he only has 100 miles on it so it's hard to tell.

The car had already been flipped once to him. He had to cut a check to FoOC for sticker and then to the other owner(who didn't register the car btw) for the over sticker price. Let's call it between $50 - 75K over. The car is sitting at Newport Autocenter now with an asking of probably $300K and waiting to be flipped again.

So I ask the guy is it really worth another $130 - 160K over the '01 360 I have now for example? His comment was no, unless you don't care about the money and you have to have the latest and greatest. A friend who does not know Ferrari's too well, looked at them side by side and said she liked the 360 look better. I agree that design wise the 360 lines seem to flow aesthetically speaking.

The car did draw a lot of attention at Crystal Cove because it's new but I did not hear one other F-owner say that they "had to have one." People liked it but maybe their reservation was more due to price constraints?

This begs the question is the 430 worth another $130 - 160K over the '01 360 I speak of? I wrestle with that and would have a tendency to say no too. Certainly a 430 can be justified at sticker price if you're lucky enough to make that happen. What's everyone else think?

For over 90% of street driving, my 360 is more than enough car. Subjectively, I like the more harmonious look of the 360 better. The next completely new design would be the one that interest me. Then again, I might keep the 360 and add something retro for a completely different driving experience.

430 at MSRP would be fine.

Even at sticker price vs. sticker price, I'd rather have a CS. However, that extra torque and the ability to have a foot clutch would be nice on the CS.

BTW, the dealer usually gets about 7% on the flip too.

Keep in mind the 430 with basic options will cost around $200,000 before taxes. If he wrote a check for that amount plus 7-10% to the dealer and another $75,000 on top of that he has $300,000 in it. Flipping for $300,000 isn't going to make him any money.

The car will remain a hot seller selling above MSRP for several years. If money was not a real concern, certainly $300,000 for an early 430 is not out of line.

If the F430 is as fast as that mag test said it was (faster than an F50) then maybe, but probably not..

This flipping is what typically happens when a new Ferrari comes out, nothing new or unexpected. I'm on the wait list for a F430 at FoBH and my salesman says it will be about a 3 year wait for me. I feel I will be lucky if my name comes up at all being this will be my first Ferrari, and after hearing that a lot of people were still on the 360 wait list for cars that never came. I will patiently wait for my turn because I'm not one to pay a premium over sticker price for any car. I'll get a late model 360 Modena if I see I'm just dreaming that I'll be getting an F430 at MSRP. Although I like the mirrors, rear fenders, Enzo rear end and 90 more horsepower in the F430, I'll be more than happy with a 360. But for now I'm willing to wait to see if my name does ultimately come up or not.

geez a 3 year waiting list?!?!

I'd rather have a 360 ... specifically a modena or spider not CS. I like the looks of modenas and spiders better than CS's and WAY better than 430's

Not really. For 300K you could buy the 360CS and the 996 GT3. Its likely he is going to lose a lot money once the cars start pouring in.

If I could not get a 430 within a reasonable time I would buy a CS in a heart beat. The difference in performance is small and which one is more attractive is a personal decision. Also, the 430 F1 with Ceramic brakes would substantially exceed the price of the CS.

BTW this car was flown in. The cost was about $10,000. Still believe he does not have $300,000 in it? :D

There is a black CS on ebay right now for under $200K. Even you dont want the GT3 you could get a 355 convertible and still be within budget.

I would buy the 430 if I had more money than I could ever spend. This kind of pisses me off though (maybe only because I am not the one making the extra $75K). I tried to buy a Ford GT a few months ago and the dealer told me they wanted $100K over invoice. I told him to call me in a year when they have one sitting, tying up inventory $$$, and we will talk price. There is just something about predatory pricing that irks me but the salesman in me says "oh well, you can't blame someone for not leaving money on the table if the market will bear it". So, good for the guy with so much money he doesn't care and good for the seller for putting his kid through college on the extra profit. Win-win I guess.

No. OK, car $200K plus $9K flown in(assumed). He paid $260K and with taxes he's into it for $275K. The last two figures are confirmed. :)

Mechanically it's not worth it. Emotionally it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay or lose as the case may be.

i am not against paying over sticker, if you have the funds and don't want to wait. i think in the next few weeks we will see some more 430's come available. some for more and some for less than the $300k you speak of. if you wait for these developments you will see some more colors and differing options. i personally would like my 430 to have the ceramic brakes and F1 if i were paying that much....hell, i would want them even if i was paying sticker. by looking at the discs and calipers, this car does not appear to have them. what do you think?

speculators probably won't get the ceramics because the incrimental return on the option just isn't there.

I am sure it doesn't have the upgraded brakes. Who ever pays that kind of money over sticker for that car doesn't care how quickly it stops. They're just getting it because it's the in thing!

F430 is heavier and it's stopping distance even with the ccb is longer than 360 (according to R&T), imagine if it is fitted with same 360 brakes, ouch!

A rich guy will plunk down 300K and get a brand new 430 tomorrow. A smart rich guy will get on the waiting lists for a couple of F models and be in the dealer's good graces for years to come. He will then be entitled to early units at MSRP if he wants them.

But I guess if one has enough money, these amounts are in the noise, maybe even pocket change, so it isn't worth the indignity of being on a silly list.

Put simply, no. A 430 is not worth 300kUSD.

Always people prepared to spunk money unnecessarily though.

Just think of the sort of cars you could buy for that cash!

Also, it's the first time I've seen a same colour 430 next to a 360 like that. Never thought I'd hear myself say it about a std 360, but it looks better (and the front/side is the best view of the 430 IMO)!

A 360CS in the same colour scheme would demolish the 430 looks wise I suspect.

i just can't see how the 360 is a better looking car than the 430 side by side. to my 360 looks out dated compared to the 430. something l in the lines of 348 and the 355.

keep in mind that if the 430 in question is a 6speed then the sticker is only $172K or so.

I think that we probably have about a year to see prices on the 430 creep UP on the flip market. As people see more of them, they're going to see the inadequacies of the 360 and more people will be looking to jump to the 430. Right now, I think that it is a little premature to be asking $300k (if ever). In about 8 months to a year, I think that you'll start seeing steady $270k selling prices and $300k asking prices.

My understanding is only F1 430 will be hitting the US shores for at least a few months. Manual 430's are scheduled for later in the year.:)
