I've had the car for about 9 weeks(85 308gts with 21,000 miles). I just realized that when the key is out of the ignition the speedo reads 10mph and the tach reads 500rpm. I don't know if it was like that when I got it. Is that normal for my car? When it is idling and not moving the tach reads 1000rpm(which IS normal) and the speedo still reads 10mph. Is this something I should worry about? The car performs beautifully at all times.
Thanks for the help my friends.
    Sam

Yes it's normal. Something about it looks fast even when it's sitting still...

Ah, you guys don't know inaccurate. Veglia is spot-on compared to the Smiths gauges in the old Jaguars. Face it, any of these old gauges are more a relative indicator than they are accurate to any great degree. The speedo in my first XKE, a '72 V-12 coupe (the one in my avatar), would oscillate up and down by 10 to 15 mph as I drove. It was cable driven off a gear on the transmission. I changed the cable, the gear, lubed the crap out of the cable with graphite, tried everything I could think of, and it still oscillated. Never did get around to pulling the speedo and having it rebuilt. Such is old cars.

My Veglia clock is 'correct' twice a day....doesn't get much better than that man!!!

I think they are great, although there IS a thread here where all were changed due to the owner's eyesight......to VDO (red dials) IIRC....

Anyway I like Veglia, it 'fits" the Ferrari mindset.

Good to hear the OP is enjoying his car!!!!
