G'Day everyone, I hope you're all well and enjoying in your "Italian Girlfriends". My 2003 girlfriend might be playing up on me a bit so I wanted to ask you for some advice. I love taking my 360 for a spin whenever I can and on average do so for 2 full days every week. I'm very diligent in making sure the oil and water temperature are on dial before pushing above 4,000 RPM. I have noticed tho that in both sport mode and normal (auto) when I put my foot down on the gas and increase the revs the gear shifting doesn't transition smoothly. There tends to be a little jolt and then sometimes another jolt before it "kicks" in to a higher gear and really takes of. This doesn't happen often but enough times for me to pose the question here. No engine lights have been on to indicate any problems so I'm not sure what this could be. Any suggestions? I'm not sure if this is normal and the reason I ask is due to never experiencing anything similar when "slamming" my 2011 Porsche Boxster. The Porsche sounds great from the get go and smoothly shifts gears while taking of. Thanks and I'm looking forward to your replies. ps. I hope my explanation above made sense and if it didn't I'll be happy to clarify in more depth
It's all about throttle position.... Sounds like the ECU is confused on what ya wanna do.. an assertive linear launch vs a "tentative" launch. ... oh my... that sounds like euphemisms during the seduction of a mistress.
lol Can you please explain a bit more about what you mean regarding the "throttle position"? Also, I have no clue what a linear launch is vs a "tentative" launch. Excuse my ignorance here but I'm still new to the world of Ferrari Just took it for a spin again today and now I'm having other S#$% happening that I also noticed in the past but it started pissing me off now lol When I take off in auto (Not like a maniac. Just normal cruising pace) it won't shift from 1st gear to second and does a back and forth jolt like a good 2-3 times before kicking over. It's super weird/awkward and really rocks the car quite a bit. Does anyone have a clue what the heck that could be? Only happened 3-4 times and I've probably driven it 10+ times thus far. Thanks for your help ps. She still is very seductive and nothing beats that "purr"
When was the throwout bearing changed? Symptoms point to that direction... If you have it changed, use hill engineering part for superior quality. Also having someone with skill adjusting your F1 system will help.
And just a friendly advice: Never, I mean never drive these cars with Auto mode, or the "wet" mode enabled. Those eat clutch like ****. Your clutch may be worn, PIS is out of optimum alignment etc. SD2/3 computer can be used to find and with some luck, cure those symptoms. My car has a brand new clutch and if I press pedal to the floor while rolling like 40mph and change gears from ie. 2 -> 3 at the upper rev range with my foot at the floor sometimes the shift isn't smooth. Especially if driving with "Normal" mode. It really has a "old school" feel to it, a bit jerky even. Far, far away from the perfect, almost seamless shifts with transmissions like PDK.
Auto doesn't eat clutches (urban legend) but wet mode does. There may be an issue, can't tell without driving the car, but this sounds more like you need to work on technique. Remember, this is a manual with a real single plate dry clutch; It does not have a torque converter like your DD. There are a number of threads on here about how to drive the F1. Find one and read it. The lurching sounds like you are varying the throttle during takeoff and that is causing driveline lash. Once it starts you need to get off the throttle or shift to N and back into gear. On takeoff there is always a two bump feel; this can be minimized by careful control of the throttle and an every so slight lift as the clutch engages. When at speed hold the throttle steady when you shift. Auto mode will short shift all of the gears, call it no fun mode.
Redline in 2 is above 40. If I am peddle to the floor and shift 2-3 at redline I get a solid hit on the shift like someone sidestepped the clutch.
Well, your girlfriend is Italian... After a good 20+ miles drive, set your PIS correctly and do a self-learn.
This. And skip auto mode. It's a Ferrari, why even try auto? Put it in Sport for best shifting and be determined / aggressive when starting and don't lift when shifting. It shifts based on how much gas you give it. Drive like a grandma and you'll get lazy clunky shifts. With seat time you'll figure it out.
Sorry, I'm from kph -country, just tried a wild guess with mph. With sport mode enabled and "WOT" shifting mine does exactly same. But if doing WOT shifting with normal mode, mine shifts slower or "clumsy" compared to sport mode. Noticeably slower. A guy coming from Porsche PDK, the finest automatic transmission out there, may find this F1 system really .... well akward or antique.
