This is listed as a 208 but with Bertone GT4 body style, which is completely weird. No affiliation of any kind. The 208's were Pininfarina GTB and GTS body styles and were not made until 1980. They were Italy only and sold due to lower taxes/regulatory based on the smaller engine size. They were also turbo-charged according to my references, and exactly 300 (160 GTB and 140 GTS) were made between 1980 and 1982. I have never seen any reference to the GT4 released in a 208. Could it be a transplant? Seems pretty far stretch. This one caught me off guard. Only one of my several Ferrari model books dedicate space to the 208. The Leonardo Acerbi book gives it the most treatment. http://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/orlando/1977/ferrari/208-S933.html Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yep. CarReaper used to own one. I'd think a 2L GT4 is just about the most "un-Ferrari" Ferrari one could own -- and I'd love to have one someday. On another note, the Pininfarina cars were several different variants as well. There was a 208 without the turbo and with the 308 body style, and then the car picked up a turbo with the 308 body, and kept the turbo when the 328 body style came along.
842 or so made. Apart from 2 L, gearbox slightly different gearing to compensate less horses. The rest minor cosmetical differences. / Peter
The single exhaust is interesting. Wonder how that routes in the bay.. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I'm actually considering this car but there's just something not right about it. Seems to have a lot of wear for low miles like that and the underside and engine bay appears as if it was flood/fire..also the plate on the door seems very odd... Mine was totally toast so I used a 308 system instead. Can't remeber how it was routed, only that it came out on the left side. /Peter
Some work to do on the wiring. When he brakes, the indicator at the rear lights up, but only on the left side . Not even symetrically wrong. /Peter
They look similar to 550 wheels, but not exact. If the car about was built in 1977, it means they were doing the 'tax break cares' in that year as well. The Gt4 in Ferrari badging was made from 1974 to 1980. The 308 GTB/s was built from 1975-1989. The story goes that Mr. Ferrari was very involved in the development of the GT4, particularly the driver, wheel, clutch relationship. Marcello Gandini was chief designer, same guy that did the Countache, Miure, X1/9 and many others, for Bertone. This was Ferrari's first production V8 (if you count the Dino cars), first mid-engined 2 + 2. Got Ferrari badging in 1976. Source: Winston Goodfellow, Leonardo Acerbi
