    Hi Guys -

I was poking around and having a look at the rear axle on the driver side tonight, and noticed that one of the rubber boots were ripped.

I'm not sure whether I'm using the correct terminology, but when you look at the rear axle, on the driver side of the car, there is one rubber boot on the outside of the car towards the brake rotor, and there is another rubber boot towards the center of the car.

The one towards the center has a rip in it and dropped heavy grease all around it.

What part is that specifically? can someone plz point to the it's replacement? Is there a cheaper alternative?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks everyone.

    Bobby

The cheapest alternative is to clean the area and superglue the rip back together. Won't last forever, but you asked.

The next cheapest alternative is to buy a split CV boot. This goes on in two pieces so that you don't have to remove the half-axle.

The preferred fix is to disconnect the half-axle and install a proper new CV boot. Easy but messy if you do it yourself, more pricey if you pay to have it done, presumably.

Thanks for the quick response guys.

I saw the boot from Pegasus. Out of curiosity, what would the OEM Boot run me? anyone have a part number?

    Thanks again.

Also - I didn't look close enough... but are the inner cv boots the same as the outer cv boot? are they interchangable?

    Thanks.

You can always look up things like this on the Ricambi website, even if you don't have the part number. In this case, it says the inner and outer boot kits are different, the inner boot (gearbox side) is shown as part #70000867 (many applications), and the price is $72.03.

Thanks Miltonian... I swear I looked at that diagram for 10 minutes and didn't see it.

Thanks for pointing that out for me.

Here's a little budgeting tip on these CV boots: kit 70000868, despite the way Ferrari calls it a 'wheel side kit', actually contains TWO boots and rings (wheel side, g'box) for the exact same price as the single-booted kit 70000867.

In other words, NEVER purchase 70000867 when you can get more stuff for the exact same price via kit 70000868: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=261139
