There is a strong chance that the media will be showing up on the last Sunday of the month. This should be fun!

I've been following this thread and haven't posted yet but wanted to throw my 2c in at this point followed by a potential solution.

I have really enjoyed events at the VCR and have met some great people and seen some great cars. I've seen the posts in this thread and have to question what the real goal should be here. I have been a paid up member of many clubs from model airplanes and other hobbies to full size cars and boats and they have pretty much always suffered with the same problem and that is "locations".

As events like this catch on they become bigger and more popular until things get out of control or someone complains and then the problems start. At VCR I have seen at least one Lambo and one musclecar tank slapping sideways on the main road out front and there were various "burnout boys" for a few weeks. Luckily hard work by Dusty and his friends, seemed to keep things in check. But there could easily have been problems or accidents.

The situation now looks grim and if Steve is correct and the Media show up, then what will it achieve? All this publicity will not suddenly make the landlord change his mind but probably strengthen his case. Secondly advertising that there is a "FREE" exotic and custom car show every week at a certain location will turn what was a great event into the county fair but with nobody to clean all the trash after they leave.

I propose a solution that might be beneficial to all and adds a different perspective:-

Various locations exist but lets face it sooner or later they may suffer the same fate. So why don't we make the event mobile. You can take all the proposed locations and then every week the upcoming weekends location is posted on Fchat, 6speed etc and we all go there. Now it's just one weekend every month or so at each location so it's probably not going to cause that much of a problem. This way only the real car enthusiasts will be able to get to it and this keeps the event pure. I think that businesses like VCR should be able to provide services and make a profit and so mobile carts or tables can be set up like at Cars and Coffee so that we can support those that support the events.

I know this idea is not perfect but it does add an element of interest and although I know some love going to the same place every week, it is actually fun to drive different roads and routes from time to time. The spin off from this is that just like the aftermath of the Crystal Cove event, old friends or locals will actually be able to meet at the VCR to get coffee or breakfast and not have to worry about angry store owners or waiting tow trucks.
Locations that don't work out can be phased out as necessary and new one's tried as they emerge.

    That's it,

    Mark

I think Mark has hit the nail on the head - most of these shows (Crystal Cove etc) started out as a gathering of a few friends at some convenient location (In-N-Out etc). So rather than have a huge production with a permanent location, have the gathering move to a different location each week. Have 4 locations, strip malls, and simply rotate them. It will work for a while. Especially if the C&C or Donut Derelicts formula is followed: start and end early. The show should be over and done by 830, 900 at the latest. It makes it a big pain in the neck to attend, but that factor will keep the crowd under control since many people will vote for sleep most weekends.

As a Crystal Cove regular for years, listen to SRSLusso, the VCR gathering is all over but the shouting. The potential lost business, boycotting, letter writing campaigns etc all sound like great ways to prolong the inevitable, but the in the end it makes little difference (everyone thought the Starbucks at Crystal cove would be closed when that show left... Starbucks is fine) when the landlord wants us out. It's probably better to direct our efforts elsewhere.

As much as I hated it when Crystal Cove shut down, it was refreshing when the show re-emerged as C&C. The new location brought some new life to the gathering. Sadly, it too is starting to reach critical mass and I wouldn't be surprised if it gets evicted in the not too distant future. The second generation VCR cold well be better than it is now (and we can still pick up a cup of coffee at VCR on the way to the new venue).

the compassion has exceeded capacity. while sharing the passion for cars with people that can't obtain them is nice and all, a lot of the guests don't see the need to patronize the businesses. there but by the grace of god...

i have talked in the past with some fchatters about them becoming the point person, or 'godfather' of the events. if these things move, we can get people on a text message or email list and manage expectations of the businesses. an opportunity for someone to step up and represent the community. organization and representation with someone that is ego-agnostic without agenda to stand up.

Nothing to exciting. there was a little tiff between a guy and security guy, but it was pretty tame. More people need to come out.

Could start calling it the "CVS pharmacy car show" and maybe the landlord will evict them instead of VCR, or just go away. Also, its probably not a bad idea to try to end it before the SUVs come looking for groceries etc - they'll never even know it happened...

What time does Cars and Coffee usually end ? Does everyone leave at 9:00 am ?
If everyone would agree to leave at a certain time if might be easier to find a new location.
Comments from regulars would be apppreciated.

That's a hard idea to execute, but mainly I think property management is hammer down making this a non-option. It's a good idea, but it I think it's too late for it.

I'm hoping I can track down a spot in Malibu to see if we can have a PCH location like the golden days up in Newport with Crystal Cove. Hopefully I can find something soon.

I've heard a couple different alternate venues discussed. Hopefully SCS will regroup at a new location if the property management has there stuff together with parking restrictions etc. Unfortunately this battle may end up costing VCR it's lease. Sad we couldn't come up with a solution to benefit us all.

There has been a Super Car event every Sunday for the last 5 years at 23300 Block Mulholland Dr., Woodland Hills, CA. On regular Sundays approximately 125 exotic cars show up to have coffee and socialize. On the last Sunday of each month, there are up to 400+ exotics. The event goes from 8:00 AM to 10:00. These cars are comprised of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Bugattis, and others worth literally millions of dollars. Among the people, Jay Leno often brings his exotic cars. The majority of the people that come are customers of the center and buy from CVS, Subway, Village Coffee Roaster, the small hairdresser shop, the bagel shop, Labels Table Deli and more.

This even was begun by Dustin Troyan of Village Coffee Roaster in the shopping center to promote his business and sell coffee. Dustin is not only a brilliant marketer but also a philanthropist. He raises money for the 1199 Foundation (CA CHP), LAPD, LA County Sheriffs as well as a major contributor through the Super Car Sunday Patrons to Toys for Tots. It is called Motors for Toys.

Recently Regency Centers, Inc. the owners of the property out of Jacksonville, Florida, have decided to kick the exotic car owners off the property. This is due to complaints from Vons Market and CVS Pharmacy in the center. On the last Sunday of the month it is difficult for their customers to park.

There is the presence of LAPD as well as the security company Olin, each Sunday. The Olin officers have been telling exotic car drivers to leave when they arrive to do business at the center. The LAPD is only there to keep the peace and are not there to enforce the actions being taken by security. The security has even brought tow trucks to threaten to tow exotic vehicles away.

This coming Sunday, 10/25 is the last Sunday of the month. There will be many exotic cars coming to buy coffee, Subway, eat at Labels Table deli or frequent other stores and will be asked to leave by security.

I think it's important we get everyone we can out. This is more than just a show, it's been a place for friends who share a common passion to enjoy good coffee and conversation.

Unfortunately this is not entirely accurate. LAPD is there *primarily* to keep the peace, but if legal action is taken by security, they will have to act accordingly. In the statement above it says "will be asked to leave by security". After being told to leave, they could make a private persons arrest for trespass if the person refuses to leave and LAPD would have to take the arrest.

Lose-lose situation for everyone but the media I guess.

I am not sure but there is more than just "Your tresspassing leave" before they can do a citizens arrest, I think there is a time limit of how long your there, Also there is the 60 minutes before they can tow away on property held open to the public.

    I'll be there.......

For private property open to the public, an authorized agent (i.e. owner, security guard, Police Officer with a signed "trespass letter, etc) can demand a person to leave. The person is required to leave and not return for at least 24 hours. If they ask you to leave and you don't, you risk private persons arrest on that day. The order is only good for 24 hours so it does not carry over to the next Sunday.

What if I bought a cup of coffee at VCR then walk over to VON's and buy something there and hang for a while, can they still ask me to leave even if I show them the receipt?

I believe you are asking the question of someone who is not an attorney. I would ask who he is to qualify his legal opinion othersise take it with a grain of salt. Plus he has only made 4 post under this screen name and we don't even know who it is.
