    Hello again fellow "F"-chatters,

I've heard/seen enough horror to be scared straight. I'm going to replace the rubber hosing that connects the '2' fuel cells together. One the bridge pipe, there are '2' pieces of rubber hosing, looks to be similar coolant hosing?

I purchased this stuff for the job:

Gates #24024 VULCO 1-1/2" I.D (38 mm). Will this also serve as coolant hose connections.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Chris.

IIRC, the size is smaller for the fuel crossover hoses -- maybe 30mm ID (but I can't check until tomorrow).

Well i have no idea if that hose is fuel rated or not, but I measured 1-3/8" diameter.

Do not use any hose that is not fuel rated! Use only FUEL RATED hose. I just changed all my hoses and did an experiment on coolant and Non-fuel rated hose immersed in fuel. I checked the non-fuel rated hose after 2 days it it completely deteriorated. All my hoses are fuel rated around the fuel area. Don't mess around with hoses that are not fuel rated for any fuel application. If you are not sure of the hose, get one that you can verify as fuel rated.

Most commercial auto parts stores, incl NAPA stock Gates 'fuel filler' hose. You might find it at consumer (AutoZone, PepBoys) as well.

It's normally used for the neck that connects the gas cap fitting to the fuel tank on cars & trucks. However, it's fuel rated & can be used for cross-over connections.

DON'T USE: Heater hose, either rubber or silicone. Gasolene will destroy it. It will swell, then little bits start breaking off, clogging fuel pump, filters, fuel distributor, & injectors. Big mess & $$$$$ to recover from...

I know I had that size written down somewhere in my notes, but I can't seem to find it now -- sorry (I'd swear it's somewhere in the 30~35mm range on a '78~'79 B/S).

i need to do the rubber crosspipe hoses on my 77 GTB.

anybody ever figure out if NAPA carries the size, or what the size is ????

i am going to get the fuel filler hose and do it as well with new Marmon clamps. so far my list is 2 feet of #1055 for fuel filler, ( i want extra) 2 #705-1531 marmon clamps, and a bunch 5/8, 5/16 and 1/4 inch fuel hose.

    thanks.

    Reaper.

Superformance UK lists the 308 fuel tank crossover hoses on their website...

    I bought them--haven't installed yet. They look like black urethane--surely they're fuel-rated..?!

    Michael,
You can buy honest to goodness 7mm line on-line. I'll find the link and post it tomorrow. It cost less, they have the OEM style clamps and it fits.

You can get standard 5/8, 5/16, 1/4 hose with a fuel service rateing or you can use 300 psi rated fuel hose in the same sizes. a bit more $ but more durable hose, cheap insurance. Again, Napa has it.

Also, don't get cheapo hose clamps. The best ones I found were from Germany, all stainless of course, but with more robust screw drive and teeth. I found the Napa ones to be too weak and I could not torque them down strongly enough without breaking the teeth. Spend an extra dollar and get the quality european made ones and you can't go wrong.

I found the right sized crossover hoses from McMaster-Carr. They were rated for hi temp marine engine applications specifically for fuel/oil and also carried a pressure rating. I found this hose to be significantly better than the original ferrari hoses that I replaced.

As a precaution, after I replaced all my hoses, I cut a piece of each size and placed them all in a jar of gasoline and observed them for several weeks. Probably overkill but now I am very sure of my hoses and do not smell any fuel vapors on sharp turns. (I was smelling fuel when I did hard turns before!)
