Is your 308 clutch a hard push?

The cable pulley is further forward than the wheel well. It's very close to the firewall IIRC (where the cable exits the tube) -- item 49 in this figure:

My 77 had what i thought was a very heavy clutch effort. When i took it apart, i found that the throw out bearing carrier was jambing and sticking on the guide tube, both parts were quite badly gaulled.
After dressing and lubeing i found that i had about 20% less effort.

This is probably a common problem with low mileage cars.
