I'm looking at a car which in most respects fits the bill for my requirements but the only problem is that its not the "right" color. Please give input if you have purchased a car with a color you did not care for. Did it grow on you, or did you regret it ? One of the problems is that it is a relatively low production car and there are not a lot of alternative cars from which to choose.

what kind of car ?? if its an exotic, why buy then if its not a color you prefer? also if its an exotic it would probably cost a fortune to repaint to factory specs.

Its a Boxer. I don't believe in changing colors on these cars as its never done quite right and if it was the cost would be prohibitive. I feel it also alters the character/pedigree if that makes sense.

Black. To me the "proper" Boxer should be red.

i can say this for myself, i always wanted a ferrari and i was torn between the 308 and the 348 but which ever one i chose it had to be red with tan interior. i saw alot of really nice cars but the color was not there for which i was looking for, even though some of these cars were in great shape and priced right i would not settle for anything but red with tan. and i think if i were in the market for a very rare car i would not buy unless it met all of my requirements.a far as your black boxer, i would strongly agree and go with the red. by the way the boxer is a sweet car, good luck.....

Completely. If your not happy with the color I would pass. Although excellent examples are far and few between I'm sure you'll find another that meets your expectations including the color. What color is this particular car and what are you ultimately looking for?

well... When I was looking for a 308, I only wanted a black coupe. What did I end up with??? A red/black boxer paint GTS. It grew on me before I made the deal and I absolutely love it.

That said, I agree with the group; a Boxer should be red. It's a bit more expensive than a 308, if I were you, I would get what you want and not settle.

If it's an F car, it's got to be your color. I just bought a 2002 spider red/tan and I was toying with another color for less money. My son and brother insisted I only get my color. They were right and I got my color.

I agree - no point in having it you are not 100% happy. Otherwise you buy something you don't want, spend money on it, miss the opportunity to get what you really want, etc, etc...

    Wait for the right car.

    Cheers

    Darth's correct :D

You shouldn't have too much of a problem finding a red Boxer 98% of the Boxers I looked at in my quest were red.

Which Black Boxer are you checking out?

Don't do it! Wait for the exact right color combo. Otherwise, it'll annoy the hell out of ya every time you go for a drive or wash it!

But red/tan is so rare, it could take a while... :)

Owning a blue Dino GT4, I decided to buy another Ferrari, it was between a Gold tr or a Blue 348 GTB when I was offered a White 348 Spider.

I was not sure about this but looked at few pictures of the car and thought that I can always paint if I don`t like it (I am a tech rep for a auto paint company so no problem with that) flew half way round the world to look at it and bought it and I now love the colour.

But then I would not a buy a Red Ferrari anyway because I prefer not to be a Lemming. My White Spider creates more interest than any Red one that`s for sure, a Black Boxer is a stunning looking car and it really suits the shape, so buy it and be an individual.

    Just my 2p worth.

    Regards,
    Phil.

color is secondary to me. i dont care much about working a/c and we have no emissions testing here. how the car runs and drives is key, but buy what you want, red or otherwise.

I like the Boxer in black - those orange panels clash with the red/black scheme, but look sharp on a gloss black finish.

I don't much like the red/black scheme -- looks dated. (But then, most of the ones I've seen were a bit faded.)

One down side to having a solid color Boxer is that people have to look twice to know it's not a 308/328. (But then, most people can't tell a 328 from a "Tester Rosser".)

But, when it comes to Italian cars: The red ones come factory equipped with a police car in the rear view mirror. ;)

You answered your own question, don't buy it!

My 348 is Rosso Corsa (re-sale red?) because that was a reqiurement from my wife "if you're buying a Ferrari, it has got to be RED..."

However if you DO find an unusual coloured Ferrari that you like the only downside I can think of is that you may have to wait a little longer to find a buyer.
Since you probably paid less for an unusual colour, I don't list the lower selling price as a downside.

I would understand your predicament if you were looking for the black and only found the red ones. Wait till you find the red/black, they're out there.

Love Fcars. Hate red as a colour for any car (too aggressive and fades / goes off in time). Agree Boxer would look great in black, as most 12 cylinder Fcars do. Had two black and one silver Fcar so far....

....as you can see, this whole discussion is always totally subjective, so get what YOU want (and don't listen to your wife - LOL !). :) :) :)

I bought a blue QV....I really wanted a red one, but the blue seemed to be a good deal and really needed paint anyway... I figured a blue car that needs a paint job is a red car, so I bought it. It's been 4 years and I still haven't gotten to the paint, but when I do, it will stay blue. It's really grown me over the years to the point where I perfer it.

Here's the dilemma; I'm looking for an injected car which narrows the field in half ;1000 or so, not all that many were imported , maybe a third? Of those many have stories or issues, of the rest only a few are for sale at any time, of those the "perfect" ones command such a premium as to not be in my price range. I've found that one but not in my color of choice. I have a black/ black NSX and was looking for something at the other end of the mid-engined spectrum. Currently have a burgundy Lotus and have owned yellow and orange Porsches. With these cars it didnt seem to matter the color as I bought the cars condition and not the appearance but with the Boxer it just seems to be in a different league.

When I began my search for a Ferrari I wanted a Chiaro Blu 328. Spent a year and a half looking and only found one available in the US. It was a garage queen with an asking price higher than the original sticker. After 1.5 years of looking with no success, I came to the conclusion that I wanted a 328 more than I wanted a Chiaro Blu 328. In the end, I got my blue 328, just happened to be Azzuro rather than Chiaro.

So, it comes down to how long you are willing to wait to find the car in the color you want. Since you are looking for a Red Boxer, it shouldn't take *that* long. If you were looking for an off color, then it might be worth purchasing a different color, but I don't think so in this case.

When I was shopping for my first Ferrari I wanted ANYTHING but red. (It also seemed that every red one I drove was trashed while every other color I drove was in much better shape.)

In the end I bought a red over black (boxer scheme) 308 needing paint... badly... with the intention of changing the color. Now, even though I've discovered it left Italy in white, I'm very likely going to repaint in the same red over black color scheme as it has really grown on me.

Were I to buy a Boxer (and I'd only wanted a carb car) my first choice would be solid black.
