I’m not a big fan of motorcycle racing, but I do watch the TT every year. I believe that kind of skill and courage doesn’t exist in any other racing venue.

This year there were five fatalities. All were riders, no spectators or officials. There is at least one death almost every year, and this was not the first time for multiple fatalities. These riders know the risks and fully accept them. As they say, motor racing is dangerous.

I just hope there is no serious threat of discontinuing the event or dumbing it down. It is historic, unique and should be continued for as long as there are competitors who want to do it.

I attended several years ago and on the two days I was there, two riders died. One ended up in a tree. The other was flattened against the exterior wall of a pub.

I got a tour of the track from rally driver Mark Higgins and at once point we had to stop where they were doing some course maintenance. There must have been 20 memorial markers to riders who died at that section, yet it was a perfectly straight section of road. I mentioned that to Mark and he didn't seem too surprised.

It feels a bit like '60s F1 racing, but as you say... the riders know the risks, why stop them?

    I dunno, I just don't know.

BTW, Art Chambers raced there once, I believe.

You have to plan so far out to attend the race but I would love to go. Life is risk analysis.

Definitely! It reminds me of Spa back then, when the cars would pass brick houses (and spectators!) in the village of Masta by just a few feet.
