Seen the movie been there n got the t shirt !! Guy Martin the main bloke in the movie myself and him have shared many hangovers!! A few of the boys where over here in WA three years ago racing at waneroo as a promo for Irish road racers and they wiped the floor with all the locals hee hee.the locals where riding seriously tuned bikes and all the Irish lads where on stock bikes and Ryan Farquhar had consumed 3 bottles of a very fine red the previous night at my place.Pumped him full of Red Bull the next morning and he went out and done his magic!!!

Hey I have to say all of the lads that do it are so down to earth it's unreal.these boys go and risk their lives and if u didn't know top prize money for leading a race start to finish and winning the race nets them approx $18,000!!! When you consider the cost of prepping machines accommodation etc etc its peanuts and probably costs u money!! Valentino Rossi went to the tt a couple of years ago and when he was asked if he would like to try it his reply was HELL NO! As For Guy and all the other lads they are true gentlemen !! They don't do it for the money they do it for the buzz. Words cannot describe what it's like I get shivers up my spine thinking about it and I haven't been to a race in 8 years! Trust me you gotta go there and if you do I will hook you up with all the boys and when you are sitting in the retirement home getting ur ass wiped by a 21 year old honey u will still think about one thing, THE TT!!

I think I've told this story before, but anyway, my old man used to race bikes in the '50s and '60s and ended up in England racing for a few years.

He went to race in the Isle of Man TT (can't remember the year) and during a practice session had a massive prang, spent many weeks in hospital, had to give up racing and eventually the injuries cost him his right arm.

Back in '95 I went to the IoM with him where he still had many friends and was quite well known. Everyone was amazingly friendly and generous to me and it was a brilliant experience.
To top it off a bloke I'd never met before lent me his bike for a day and I got to ride around the course (I did it twice) before I stopped at a pub somewhere for lunch (maybe Castletown?) and then rode back to Douglas and returned his bike to him. Very, very cool.

We then watched the big boys going round for a couple of days. They are utterly mad - in fact one rider was killed while we were there.
It's surprising that it is still allowed to run, but would be a great shame if it wasn't.

    :)

Great story!! And I'm sure although your old man was injured he still has fond memories of the island.I honestly don't think it will ever be banned as it creates so much money for the local economy and actually road racing is enjoying a resurgence in popularity.Back in the late nineties it was dying out due to a long run of serious incidents .Now thanks to u tube etc etc its gaining legend status again.I'm back in Ireland in September for a holiday and will see the last race of the season in Killalane just outside Dublin.CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep full on action there also only 30 minutes from my home town and I used to go every year for the week before race day to pickle me liver!! So many smaller events that never get a mention but equally as thrilling! From April to September there is normally a race every other week and the season starts off in my home town with the Cookstown 100. The start n finish is outside my local so you can get pissed and watch the action at the same time!

Well I'm back from my trip home to the Emerald Isle ! Had a fantastic time at the road races, and caught up with me old racing buddies. As for Ryan Farquar he is now managing a race team and no longer competes also caught up with Michael and William Dunlop who are both keeping well. They gave me two signed honda tt legends jackets as a little gift ! One will be framed and go into the man cave and the other is up for sale to the highest bidder. Pm me if you are interested. My sister in law wanted a new car while I was home so got her a beautiful Aston Martin v8 vantage at a really good price and for setting up the deal I was given a test run in a new 458 italia !!! Have to say it made my 355 look like a bit of a relic, the power and responsiveness of the thing was unreal. That is now the next car on my wish list,a yellow spider please!

I had no idea this race even existed till we drove into Portrush the day after racing finished a couple of years ago. Was on our way to see Joey Dunlop's statue in Ballymoney to take a photo for the father in law. Having looked at the roads they used and at you tube it is on the bucket list!

Unfortunately due to the typical Irish weather the NW200 didn't really happen this year! Last time I was there was in 05. One of my old buddies was marshalling at the magic roundabout and when he saw me he went and got me a Marshall's bib so I could stand at the roadside at the roundabout exit!! There was a couple of times I had to dive for cover as they came squirming past me,just awesome

That is insane. The Isle of Man TT is crazy enough with the bikes basically solo 99% of the time but in a pack like that at 300kph with trees, fences etc just inches from the riders is just nuts. wow

Was it Nigel ? There used to be a Nigel Hazlett who raced in the support class about 15 years ago. Think he was Ballymena. Might have to look in my old archives

Stephen,he won the 85 or 86 Manx by 3 minutes, then, because you're not allowed to compete in that race 'cos you've won it once!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(gotta be an Irish way of thinking,he started doing the TT.
He came 3rd in the '89 junior TT and kept competing until the early '90's.

I will need to do a bit of research on him as I was only 16 at that time and I had more than bikes on my mind at that time if you know what I'm saying!! The Manx GP was more of a training event for the TT so not sure of the regulations at that time but sound about right that if you won a Manx tt event then u moved up a class into the tt. I did the Manx tt in 92 and after competing and qualifying a good time I was allowed to compete in the tt the following year if I wished. I never did the tt as it was too expensive for me , my balls needed to grow another 10mm in diameter and I was happy with my silver trophy for doing the Manx!
