Hi everyone,

Here are some pictures of the 1968 Barcelona Auto Show taken from "Blanco y Negro", a spanish magazine.
This is interestingly the famous 6015 split bumper Islero that was also pictured with Ferruccio Lamborghini and don Eduardo Miura.

Great story, amazing that you found the car and we're able to buy it Olivier,
In the mean time, have you perhaps found any more traces of the race history of this car?
Par example, there was a rollbar inside the interior, any traces left?

Unique picture, does the magazine say anything about the date of that show?
Was it april 1968?

The pictures with Ferruccio and Eduardo are also believed to be taken in 1968.

The 400 GT 2+2 in the background is also interesting,
but I will post that in the 350/400 GT thread

I've got thursday the confirmation from SAVH (P. Peter's organisation for Le Mans Classic) that #6009 is fully eligible and trully recognized as the first and only one Lamborghini to have taken part to Le Mans !

As I was expecting that letter, #6009 is sitting in a workshop. In April, we'll start to dismantle it.

So, my SAVH file is among more than 800 others for only 350 to be selected for 2010 !!!

The magazine was published the 4th of May 1968, so I assume the show was a little earlier. However, the article doesn't mention any date.

I just bought a copy of this exhibition's press release. The last two pictures are apparently part of the photo press kit and this is the first time I see those. Sorry for the bad quality. However, we can see that it is surely 6000 shot early in its life when it still had wire wheels.

Congratulations!

#6009 will be at Le Mans 2010, it must be!
I'm not that technical, but I assume this huge fuel tank was used for Le Mans 1975.
Just curious, was it still installed when you bought the car, or did it come as a part with the car.

No, Paul Rilly hold the Le Mans fuel tank, that's the last "vestige" he kept all this years from his brilliant Islero...

 

Interesting.

I would have thought that such a component belongs with the car forever, since it is part of the car's history/heritage/provenance...

 

After Le Mans June 1975, Paul Rilly continued to use his Islero as an everyday car the way it was "tuned" for the race untill he got caught by local Police...due to its racing exhaust.

Then Islero had to be presented to a Technical Control, so it had to be refurbished with all original components back to its standard configuration. That's the explanation why he stored & kept the fuel tank when he sold Islero in 1977. Paul Rilly was in automobile business as a big car trader for that period, close to 1.500 cars sold/year even today many french car dealers cannot claim to sell that much volume...unfortunately for him, his 1st wife requested divorce...and he lost his wealth & his garage and all his sport & racing cars, got depressed also, quitted France for a while and started a new life. He is a simple man now, living with modesty far away from the bright of superficial life...I have all respect for him !

 

6279 is for sale. Interesting to see all the mods in the description.

As I posted elsewhere: Hate to say it, but the guy would be better parting this car out.
Take a look at how high they raised the door sills to add enough structural strength to the car
since they chopped off the roof. The idea of an Islero Spyder is great, just not this one.

Ed, I agree with you it's interesting...
Does anyone knows more about that dry sump on a front V12 engine ???
I'm planning to modify #6009 engine with a dry sump...for next Le Mans Classic.
BTW, #6009 is almost dismantled and I've shoot many pictures demonstrating where rollbar was fixed inside as well as many others details...

The conversion started in the mid eighties by a well-known car collector in Virginia. He kept the car until end of 2006 when he decided to sell it on ebay in order to raise funds for a new racing project. The car was sold to the present seller in California.
Lets hope that in the next 20 years someone will find the courage to finish this Spyder project, respecting the curves of the original Islero, including the original engine and wire wheels.

 

Keeping you inform of dismantling process of #6009 interior is empty...next step : removing engine & gearbox !

There are many evidences of its Le Mans past...as for example you can noticed these holes on the floor that were drilled to bolt on the roll cage !

To me it looks like a strange mix of Quale Mangusta, Mercedes SLR and Reventon.

 

Islero #6279 sold on ebay for $22,000.-
I hope she found a good home.

 

Yesterday, I met someone who owned Islero S #6646 back in the '70s.
He bought it from Comte van den Steen de Jehay on 29th june 1972.
Car was 1st registered in 1970.
I will collect next a copy of the period invoice + 2 pictures.
Who knows where it is by now ?

 

I think that is a M.I.A. car!
