i'll post a picture this evening...
Any idea which body or engine number belongs to #6677 ? The logic would be body 25226 with engine 50226 which will be another confirmation that 226 Islero were built.
The few times that I saw the car here in Holland, I have not been able to see a VIN plate including enginenumber, but I will ask the owner. Ciao! Marcel
Hi Islero maniacs, I took this picture yesterday at an Italian car event here in Holland. Great to see an Islero in action on the racetrack. Next time that will happen must be Le Mans 2010...;-) Ciao! Marcel Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi everyone, 6300 has cleared the swiss customs: good news! However, it failed to pass the swiss technical examination because of its 3 eared knock offs... There is apparently a new regulation in Switzerland that prohibits them, even though they were legal in the 60s. I would need a set of hexagonal wheel nuts, preferably the same model as the ones that were initially fitted to german cars. Any idea? However, I would also consider fitting something else while finding the real deal: anybody has an idea of a proper fit? Borrani? What size would fit? Thanks a lot for your help!!! Edouard, Have you already asked Jacques about the spinner knock off hexagonal ??? http://www.maseratisource.com Or may be look at http://www.campagnolo.com/jsp/fr/service/index.jsp but it's all about bikes now... Is #6300 new in Switzerland? There will be for sure someone who would give the hexagonal nuts for loan.
Hi everyone, hi Olivier, Today was the D-Day: I first drove my Islero! Since I still have my problem with the 3eared knock offs, I drove it with garage plates. This car is AMAZING!!! I am totally in love!! At the first start: very turbine like, almost quiet when idling. Then, even though I couldn't take more than 3000 rpm, I was amazed by the smootheness of the motor and by its ability to go up in rpms. The noise is fantastic and very refined. I anticipated the controls to be very heavy but I was positively surprised. Every control is very precise, but very manageable. The gearbox and the steering are particularly great, the feeling of precision is very reassuring. On the twisty roads, the roadholding is great, the car feels very stable (even though I didn't play the fool!!!) with no roll at all. As a comparison with a Maserati Ghibli (the more similar car I regularly drove) I would say that it feels much smaller and less intimidating. The driving position better is by far and the controls really feel much more precise. The motor feels completely different: the Maserati V8 is raw when the V12 is pure smootheness. The Islero is much more drivable as a regular car. I join a link to a little video that a friend and I took with a camera, sorry for the bad quality... More to come! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZjCOvxanUY Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Great news! I can understand your joy after years of wait. But why you could'nt take more than 3000 rpm?! Philippe S2 7987 www.lamborghinimiura.com
Hi Raymond, Yes it is its first time in Switzerland. Apparently the regulation changed some time ago since the Isleros were initially imported with the 3eared knock offs. Do you have any idea for the loan? Best regards, Ed.
Ed, you are a possible new member for the Lamborghini Club Switserland, I'm sure they will be happy if you joined them ;-) About how many Islero's are in that Club at the moment Raymond? Most be MANY right....? Congratulations with your first drive Ed, it's great to see you are a happy chappy now! Cheers, Marcel
I think you need these, they came off a 1968 Chibli,I put the original knock off type on the the car which I got from Motor -Wheel Services here in the UK,these are in my garage in the UK just outside London, you can have them as they are no good to me, how you get them to Switzerland I don't know as they are very heavy Stephen Keen Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Thinking about Roger Moore driving it in the movie "the man who haunted himself", what did he think of Lamborghini ?
Hi Ed, It is a wonderful Islero that you have! One of the most interesting on a historical standpoint. Please give us some more pictures! I just took back the July 2008 issue of Classic and Sports Car and I see that your car had another registration: MDM262G. How did you manage to get back the original registration that appeared in the movie? Is it only for show purposes? For how long do you own the car?
I honestly have no idea. I have heard that he loves cars but I guess megastars often shy away from owning cars that draw attention to themselves. I had hoped that he would say something interesting about the Islero when he recorded the commentary for the movie on DVD, but sadly it appeared that he couldn't even remember what make it was, as he referred to it as a Maserati! I suspect that his life at that time was filled with exciting experiences and one blurred into another, or maybe it was just another film 'prop' to him. But I'm sure it must have made some kind of lasting impression on him, and I hope very much to get a chance to find out, if he is ever able to be reunited with the car. Perhaps that will happen some day, who knows...
Hi em42, For me, the main reason for buying the car was that Roger Moore had driven it in a movie (I'm a lifelong fan!), but the prospect of owning my first Lamborghini was obviously a massive appeal too. And the incredible exclusivity! I'm not a great mechanic (though I believe I could be if only I had the time to apply myself) so I only buy cars that are in exceptional mechanical and cosmetic condition, which also makes for a safer investment. I can only afford to have one car besides my every day car, and it was a huge challenge to find a way to pay for this one!!!! But definitely worth every penny. That car has 'haunted' me ever since I first saw the movie and when the chance came to own it I just had to find a way. It meant selling my other two cars (Aston DBS like in The Persuaders and Volvo P1800 like in The Saint) - both immaculate examples, cashing in my pension (the Islero had replaced it!) and taking out a loan... but in the end I did it!!! I'll add a lot more pictures to my online album and post a link to it in the next day or two... Yes the 'legal' registration is still "MDM 262G" but I am in communication with the DVLA (the UK car registration authority) right now, about getting the original registration number back, and it is looking very hopeful. Meanwhile, the car wears the "YLR 11G" plates all the time, and I only clip the 'legal' plates on top of them when I'm actually moving on the public road!!! Now that I have started to get to know the car a little, I am completely in awe of it. It was love at first sight when I saw it portrayed so mysteriously in the movie as a charismatic but anonymous powerful sports GT, but now.. to own it... and in fact just to be able to sit in it... and the driving experience!!! What can I say, this car made my life whole. It's everything I could ever want from a car, and so much more, and also some things that I didn't even know I wanted until I experienced it. And the reaction it gets from people has to be seen to be believed. Usually total fascination and wonder, often followed by overt lust.. I guess you are going through many of the same emotions as me right now - it's great that we have this forum to connect to other owners!
Hi Joe, you are listing an Islero on your website coming from Haiti... Can you tell us more about it that is not "defense secret"... VIN & history ? Pictures as well ? Thanks in advance as usual !!!
Hey Ferry: Lucky I saw your post - I don't always come here. It is a normal Islero 6288. Used to be dark blue and restored to red in the early 90s about 16/17 years ago. Nice honest car with some needs, owned by the same guy for the past 29 years! 28k original miles, originally supplied to Haiti, then New York, then Florida, then to West Coast 29 years ago. $100k.
