Definitely one of my favorite "older" Ferrari cars! May I'm just brainwashed because of Miami Vice? [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GavijXFjIW4[/ame]
To me, it is one of the boldest, most sensual and most dramatic designs I have ever seen. There is nothing on this planet that looks anything like a Testarossa. It boggles my mind how the designers and Pininfarina were able to capture all the complex mechanical elements into such a flowing and organic form. IMHO, the Testarossa is THE most beautiful regular production Ferrari ever, and one of the most beautiful cars of all time. Looking at her in my garage, I know that I will hopefully own other Ferraris in my lifetime, but this one will be the high water mark. When I took her out to meet my family, the reaction was priceless. Its such an over the top, ballsy design, they just don't know what to say. I watched as they just tried and take it all in, speechless as they walked around her. Ferrari is not known for making cars this bold. The Testarossa was clearly aimed squarely at the Countach. Most (non supercar) Ferraris have a sophisticated sensual, but relatively understated classiness to them...think Dino, 308, 355, Daytona, Boxer, 550, 360, 458, 599, etc. Ferraris made their bones racing and their presence when they pull up is undeniable. Apparently that wasn't enough for Ferrari when it came time for the Boxer's replacement. The testarossa grabs you by the throat and demands your attention in a way only matched IMHO by the legendary Countach. I love the Testarossa, but I'm glad Ferrari has not made it a habit of trying to out shock the competition--that's a job best left for Lambo. For whatever reason, everything comes together perfectly on the Testarossa, but it could have just as easily gone horribly wrong--just look at some of the early design sketches! Sadly, even in its visual perfection, it is terribly ostentatious. I love the design, but I imagine traditionalists will come to prefer the more conservative 550. I, on the other hand, could stare at the Testarossa forever. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Lol...I was answering the question in the thread title Joe - that is poetry, at it's finest....VERY well done sir
It's one of my all-time favorite cars. It yields a driving experience that I can't compare to anything else.
YES! Agree, I have had a couple back in the day. I was THIS CLOSE to buying one a week ago, i said in the TR forum i'd never do it again, maintenance cost aside I'm on the fence and am looking. Did you guys see someone put a bid in for the 258 mile rosa in FL for $90k on eBay tonight?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RARE-LOW-MILEAGE-Serviced-Documents-COMPLETE-/150674852432?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2314ebca50#ht_5453wt_1010 red/WHITE (!) best part is, $90k bid and they still haven't met reserve! insanity.
SURE, after a long day I'd be more than happy to do it. it took me less than 20 seconds to goto eBay, select Ferrari, then Testarossa btw... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/RARE-LOW-MILEAGE-Serviced-Documents-COMPLETE-/150674852432?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item2314ebca50#ht_5453wt_1010
this car is claimed to be a Miami Vice film car. repainted black. Carbon, is this the car we see from time to time at SCS? black, black wheels.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-Testarossa-1986-Black-Tan-one-mirror-/220871820961?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item336cfc86a1#ht_890wt_1167
Yea, it's nice! The interior is unique but it might be a plus in 20 years when you have one of ???? made, and are blind with cataracts. This post is about the 258 mile car...
I think he meant it was a car that a tv show had a different one in but decided to paint them white (they bought 3 or 4, all black but painted them all white from my memory)... It's like saying this is a magnum P.I car when your selling a 308
no, it says it's the exact car.... delivered new to Shelton in Ft. Lauderdale. at any rate, you'd have to repaint it white for people to "get" it....
So it went from factory black to a repaint of white then back to a repaint of black and they call it original?
All the Vice cars were black to start, then painted white, not one original black factory paint car left the set black btw. It's been sprayed twice then, can carbon confirm the vin#?
Honestly, Chip, I'm just lazy; sorry. But thank you for providing the link! No, that's not the car we see at SCS. But that car has never been in Miami Vice. The ad is misleading: it says the paint is original, but then says it's "the exact car" used in Miami Vice. Forget the paint sticker under the bonnet (claiming black), the color code in the warranty card is 1240, which is black. So this car is, and has always been, black, and was never used in Miami Vice. It was for sale in 1987 through Tom Ashby of Newburgh, IN, black/tan, luggage, car cover, 2,900 miles. Then Select Motors (213.274.1800) of California advertised this car in the L.A. Times, 14 January 1990. Four years later, Cammisa Motor Car Company of Burlingame had it for sale, black/beige, 34,687 miles, two owners, 17" Etoile wheels, on-board fire system, well-maintained with great service history. A decade went by before Johannes Huwyler of San Mateo put it up for sale, updated stereo, Clifford alarm, recent major by Ferrari of 'Frisco, 59K miles. Fantasy Junction had it for sale on eBay in July, 2007, with 63,814 miles. Then it was on eBay last month through a private seller, 61,500 miles - no mention of Miami Vice last month, or in any of the prior ads.
Preston Henn owns (or owned) one of the actual Miami Vice Testarossas, 63259. There's another white Testarossa, 69473, whose passenger door was signed by Tubbs. Don Johnson owned, among other Ferraris, a silver Testarossa, 81689, that he had during Miami Vice (driving a Corvette-based "Daytona Spyder" on the set, and a real Testarossa off the set).
+1 to carbon. We all feel used at the end of the day, Thanks btwl I new you'd keep it real as always. This guy sounds like he might get sued from whoever buys it.
I never saw the Testarossa as more than some other exotics of the period until I saw my first one in person. For me pictures never did and still don't do the actual presence of the car any justice. Although Joes pic is one of those angles that wow'd me in person. I'd own one if the planets aligned for me. They are amazing cars in person.
