Iso Grifo A3L 002 was the second Grifo built and designed by Giugiaro but was never commissioned by the Rivolta Factory. The car was built by Bertone as a design exercise and then given to the Rivolta's.

Bertone's 002 is different that the other 411 production Grifo's built having a prototype body similar to 001.

Grifo 002 was used for publicity and then found it's way to the USA. At one point it was owned by someone in New York that parked it on the street every night, including the rain and snow. It was in some type of front end crash and the nose was repaired incorrectly and then made it's way to the west coast. It was for sale at at a car dealership in LA and then disappeared.

After many years Grifo 002 was discovered hiding at Rudy Kline's wrecking yard of the stars in Los Angeles. Rudy passed away a number of years ago and today it languishes in a warehouse owned by Kline's sons. It's in the same condition it was in twenty years ago. A guaranteed entry into Pebble Beach it sits covered in dust waiting for someone to make the right offer.

Anyone care to state what they think "the right offer" might be?

I have spoken to the sons recently and they state categorically that their Dad's cars are not for sale. They do not allow visitors either. When where the LA warehouse photos taken? I've seen them on several other internet sites.

If you write the correct check it is for sale, their father had acre's of cars and many were sold. BTW it's always spelled G-R-I-F-O never Griffo when talking about Iso Rivolta's

Painful to see it sitting in a warehouse like that. I saw it in the showroom in LA, they had a Targa as well, also red. I don't like the 'should have' thing, but oh man, I wish I had bought it then, it is such a beautiful car. No way I can afford it now.

    Best,

    Jack.

Only one in the world and it has the prototype body

    001 is over a million

it would take 100- 200 to restore

Yes, I have talked to the sons, having been a friend of Rudi's. While there is a sentimental attachment (understandably) they are in business, and their business is selling. Let me know if you want me to try to buy anything of this nature. Ed

Not known but the asking priced hovered around there for a while. To price this car would be difficult because it is one of two early prototypes and the only convertible.

Here are the cars that I feel would affect the price

    Iso A3L 001 1 million range

    Iso A3C or L 1-2 million

    Bizzarrini 5300 700K

Production Grifo Targa 275- 340 range

Whilst I agree that its' relatives could give an indication of the price-level, I think the price would be more influenced by what the Grifo community thinks it is worth.
One negative is that there are some huge unkbowns: How does it drive? Scuttle shake? You won't know until you counted down the cash. I'd say that is a pretty big risk to take.

It becomes different if you collect one-of's and drivability is not your primary concern. Then the car is without peer, but that in iteself is not a guarantee for a 7-figure price once restored.

We've all known where it is for quite some time, and it is still there, which leads me to believe that they want an unrealistic figure. My 2 cts.

    Best,

    Jack.

I was in the Iso Bizzarrini club at its beginning.(but only owned a Grifo 351 for a week) I remember when the first prototype was found in Whittier,CA supposedly by W. Goodfellow. But I never heard how it was found or the price paid. I understand it was a bit difficult to drive, maybe being made for show and not so much for driving at that stage.

Still I would rather have the convertible, which I saw in a showroom in Culver City with the front end not repaired right from an earlier accident and very rusty underneath.
