Hello, Lately, I've been experiencing trouble upshifting in my 458. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Does anyone have a fix?
Right straight to the dealer. Definitely NOT normal. If you're lucky, it's just a paddle issue. But, most likely, it's more serious.
Curious. Can you provide some details of how the problem exhibits itself? Does the right paddle simply not work for any gear, any Manettino setting? Is there any correlation to vehicle speed? Are you now stuck with driving in AUTO mode? Can you still use the paddle to shift into 1st when you start the car?
Really doesn't make any difference. The only thing that could be wrong is the paddle contact or the gearbox is screwed up. There is no "quick fix". I'm curious if this is a 2010 model.
Wow I lost track of my post. Sorry. I've observed a few different instances. Sometimes it skips 2nd and goes right to third. Sometimes it will not upshift even with pressing the up paddle. Usually a "shut down and restart" fixes the problem but it is concerning me. I'm new here and just wondering if I am not alone in this problem and if there is a recall I should be aware of - maybe a transmission re-program?
so we're to assume you did not go to the dealer?....that would be my advice as I'm sure others on here....
Had a different but perhaps related problem. Car had a problem shifting into first from stop or from reverse. Got progressively worse over time. Took it in and they finally tracked it down to a bad paddle system. Replaced the paddle unit and it runs perfectly. Had a friend start to see the same symptom and I believe he got the same fix... Mine's a 2012 spider and the friend's was a 2013 spider... SV
If you want to make sure any potential warranty issues are covered by warranty you should immediately report the problem to the Fdealer so it is documented on the earliest possible date. If you wait, your warranty might lapse by the time you report the problem. This is a real possibility given the age of your car, especially if you are not the first owner. It's not a "dumb-user" problem and it's not a problem you can fix on your own so the dealer is your best recourse.
Is the car still under any factory original or extended warranty? Does the OP live near a dealer to get it looked at? I recently spoke with a very experienced Ferrari tech at an event about the dct and its issues and from what I'm reading here, I would bring it into the dealer now.
No recall. Just get to the dealer and let them download all the data. It should not miss a shift. It may be a problem with the paddles, not the gearbox. Only the dealer can tell.
The quick fix was the restart. Now take the car in already. Not a good idea to prolong this issue. It could make things worse.
What is the build date on your car? And how many miles does it have? The 2010s went through successive gearbox evolutions. It matters when yours was built. It will be on the plate.
I only can advise you to get fast to the dealer. Its most probably an electronic bug on the upshift paddle circuit. If, for some reason, you cant go to the dealer, if I were you, I would try to unplug battery cable for about 15 minutes, not more. Maybe a reset on the electronic system could solve the problem. But better is starting to think on visiting dealer asap!
i have a May 2010 build date so quite an early car, no problems here just lots of sweet snaps, crackles and pops
If you are getting only odd or only even gears then it could be a problem with the DCT. Bring it to the service center. They may swap the DCT box.
I believe it is the second or third generation DCT. By August they had pretty much sorted it out, but you could need a replacement. You may be very lucky in that this has happened near the end of warranty.
