    Hello,

I have a recurring issue with my 2005 f430, often getting some gas outside because the pump won't click, keep filling and keep a normal level of gas in the Tank -
do you know if this is related to the angle of the handle of something wrong with the car ?
    thanks

NO. The car does not know what is happening with the pump.

This is the opposite of what most people have with these cars. Mine clicks all the time unless I pump it really slow.

You probably have a leak somewhere causing the system to be very open. When I got my car, I had a fuel smell, also no frequent click when pumping. I sniffed all around, and couldn't find it. I bought a "fuel sniffer" I put it all over the fuel lines, filler neck and fuel pumps. Turns out I had a loose clamp on my filler neck and even bigger leak because somehow one of my fuel pump rings was totally loose by hand. I fixed everything, no more fuel smell and now I get a very frequent click when pumping as mentioned unless I pump very slow.

Do you have any sort of fuel smell at all?

This is the right answer you have a tank breather hose either rotten, broken or loose.

A fuel tank, like the whole fuel system is a closed system that has breather tubes that allow the release of gases after it reaches a certain pressure, via canisters or vents, majority of the times these gases are routed back to engine to comply with emission standards. This pressure build up is what allows the trigger to click when you are putting gas. Keep in mind that it is not pressure that triggers the click on the gas nozzle, but rather the gas it self, but that's a whole different explanation. It is possible that your gas tank may have one or more of these lines loose, missing or disconnected. The easiest way of telling is if you smell gas the following day in your garage after being driven. If you do then, it is very possible that this will be your problem.

    Hope that helps.
