Hi, I recently purchased a vehicle from NV, I'm in MA...it's from a large dealer in Las Vegas, everything was generally well organized. They shipped the vehicle upon receiving of the wire transfer and I received the car which meets my expectations.

However, they were supposed to do the title transfer and I have not been able to get any info back on where it is in the process. I received the car 1 week ago and supposedly they started the title transfer back on 11/10 (~1 month ago) yet I am not able to get a hold of anybody at the dealer and/or any contact to their title 'person'. I guess their title point person does the title transfers for many of their sub-dealerships.

In the past I have bought a car from FL and the dealer sent me the title signed on the back, I took care of everything forward. But this recent experience has gotten me puzzled and annoyed...

Have any of you guys had any similar experiences? How do you resolve and/or escalate with the selling dealer?

Check with Nevada DMV. Each state has different rules but generally the dealer has 30 days to get you the title from date of sale or you can hammer them for costs and damages. Reporting them to the DMV if outside of the legal timeframe will get it moving.

Thanks that is helpful - one question though does this apply when Nevada is only the residing dealer state and not the originating or destination state for the title?

The vehicle I bought had a Nebraska title (with a lien on it which I later found out), was turned into the Las Vegas dealer as the owner had moved to NV, and is being transferred to me in MA. I bought the vehicle October 25 and on November 10 the dealer got the lien paid off/released and a title was issued in their name. With the paperwork I signed I gave the dealer POA to transfer the title in my destination state. So now it's more than 30 days since the date of the vehicle purchase and exactly 30 days since they got the lien-free title released to them by the previous state.

Final question is -- can I escalate it now that we're at the 30 day mark and will NV DMV rules apply even though they are not transferring to me in NV?

    Many thanks!

The DMV of the state the dealer resides in will definitely entertain your request.
