    Good morning fellow race fans!

Got up early this morning and guess what! same-old-same-old, Surprise, surprise - it's the de La Rosa - Zonta show. Second right now is Raikkonen, Zonta third followed by Webber,Montoya, Button, Alonso, Sato, Fisichella, MICHAEL - earlier MS was 6th. Fastest speed has been 320 kph in S4 by Alonso. It is humid in Istanbul - 63% with an air temp of 28C and track of 38C. Placings have been changing fairly often the last 15 minutes since I've been watching the screen. Caution flag is out with approximately 13 minutes remaining in this session.

Fastest time is 1:27.882 by de La Rosa and he's showing stopped. Promises to be a great race.

    Carol

***update*** - session STOPPED with 10:45 remaining - hope de La Rosa is okay.

de La Rosa stopped on the track with mechanical problems and they were unable to clear the car without a crane . . . BUT car removed and session green again with <5 minutes remaining.

Alright we are racing again ... bloody 3 week break, what sort of BS was that!

What's with Webber ... 4 litre engine or something?

Session ends with the top ten:

    de La Rosa
    KR
    MW
    RZ
    JB
    JPM
    FA
    MICHAEL
    TS
    GF

Rubens ends practice in 18th position. Alonso set a faster S4 time of 325 kph.

Bearing in mind that no one has driven on the track and the normal testing paramaters are in place . . . it appears that there should be some good racing. Wonder if the McLaren's will hold up? It looks like the gremlins are still with them.

Hope second practice is as good. May not have time to watch the computer screen for it as I have lots of computer data to enter at work.

    Have a great day everyone!!!

Good morning Pete - Webber in third - I thought surely it was a misprint - it was a real surprise. A three week break is a long time to be away.

You have to "thank" Eddie Jordan for that. He invented the F1 summer break so the F1 families would have some play time.

Tracks is fairly cool. Tilke must have heard our complaints about his no elevation tracks and he decided to change that. The Turks call it an improved version of Spa. Not sure about that, but still darn good for a new track. As with all Tilke designs I totally dig the pit area.

BTW: I understand the new track is on the Asian part of Istanbul. So technically this is another Asian and not European race?

I couldn't believe how bumpy the circuit is. It's been a while since we've seen wood dust off the bottoms of these cars. I find it hard to believe they could construct a brand new track only to have it bumpy.

That's a pretty tough one though. Bumpy to an F1 car and bumpy to anything else on the planet are two totally separate issues.

I haven't seen any of the practice footage so I'm just throwing out some things. Was this occurring in both practice sessions? As it is a new track the teams show up with a "best guess" on spring rates, shock settings, and ride height. As the weekend goes on I'm sure they'll be making changes and the cars will smooth themselves out, so to speak, as they log more and more data and make changes to those items mentioned above.

Also have the drivers been complaining? If not it may very well be about the same as some other circuits but because the cars are so well dialed in for those we don't see the kind of things we would if they'd just showed up for the first time.

I read a quote on one of the sites from DC I think complaining and that mentioned they had to adjust ride heights. Overall though the drivers love the circuit.

From what they've shown on Speed, the track looks good to me.

Varsha likes the elevatoin changes 150'. Hobbs was complaining about the blind turns. Driver's head 15" above the tarmac so the rises and falls
the result of elevation changes are from a drivers point of view 'bad?'.

Hobbs mentioned but did not complain that there are now 3 tracks counter clockwise. Normally he talking about the strain that puts on the drivers neck.

They both liked the length, that gave track the feeling you were going somewhere unlike the shorter tracks that feel like your going in a circle.
I have a feeling the elevation changes helps in that respect too.

I have not read DC's comments, but I imagine it is related to safety.
The teams have so little time to get the car set up, they error the side of speed and when you hit that plank as often that they were your car becomes
a handfull at best or worse your just a passenger.

We can only hope for a sunny qualifying and rain for the race(of course
the only place to be watching a race in the rain is home in front of the big screen TV). That is of course you want a FERRARI 1,2!

Varsha mentioned a statistic, since Monaco, Michael has scored more points than anybody else, of course he needs Indy for that to work.

I'll be up at 5 am central Sat, read you here!
