Hey, For long time fans the following will rekindle some fine memories. For the newbies, it's some pretty good reading. Enjoy! Cheers, Ian http://www.formula1.com/news/features/2011/6/12192.html
Great article. Here's another one. The first GP I ever attended was at Brands Hatch in 1970. Even back then, I was a big Ferrari fan and cheered Jacky Ickx on as he took the lead and ran away from the field in the opening laps. Unfortunately, the new 312B suffered a driveline failure after just a few laps and Jochen Rindt took the lead in the Lotus 72 and seemed to be cruising to victory. With only about 10 laps to go, Jack Brabham passed Rindt and looked set to take an upset win. Then, on the very last lap, within sight of the finish line, the Brabham-Cosworth sputtered as it was running out of fuel. Rindt was able to pass the disconsolate Brabham, who managed to hold on for second place.
That was a really good read. I'm curious why didn't include Lewis' victory in Interlagos in 2008, which I think was in the last lap as well? That one had added weight, since it won him the WDC.
I remember the Arrows loss as I was late due to an appointment and only caught the race midway through. Couldn't believe Damon was ahead and seemingly had it covered. I remember thinking this could be a healthy step for the team but cruel fate stepped in and denied them yet again, keeping their winless streak intact through 25 years tenure. Goes without saying I was pleased for JV ... Thanks for the memory, Ian.
Since this was on F1's official website: Is this their way to obfuscate the obvious? That this year it will be over way before the last race and the last lap are run (assuming Vettel stays in good health). In fact we could set up a poll by when folks think the WDC has been decided. I'm guessing Korea.
The article was about drivers going from the back of the field to winning races. Lewis did not win the race in Interlagos, Massa won, but lost the championship.
