"Hey man...is that a replica or the real deal?"

Some guy pulled over and asked that back when I took the red '89 out for a test drive, so I've been expecting the question ever since I pulled the trigger on my '90.

    Only took 7 months.

Have you guys ever been asked that question?

Where I live nobody knows what it is unless it's a truck. Drove a TR for occasionally for a while and the only time it inspired conversation was at a gas station where an old guy asked me what kind of mileage it got. Ricers tried to race it on occasion though.

I'm a very low key guy so I try to avoid attention, but so far what it has gotten has been positive.

I've told this story before, but I'll telling again.

Years ago I had my garage open and a couple of teenage kids were walking by. One of the kids said "nice kit car". I replied "thanks, come checking it out". The two walked over and I pointed to the valve covers and said "look I had these valve cover customs made so they stay Ferrari on them, I also had the intake custom made with the Ferrari horse on it. Oh and have a look here, I had a Ferrari name plate made for the engine cover so it looks like a real Ferrari". His friend started laughing then told his buddy "your an idiot". We all laughed and the kids continued on there way.

    Just have fun with it.

    Replica question only once.

I got asked "is this your dad's" a lot, or heard people commenting "his dad probably let him drive that" or "driving daddie's car".

Another frequent question was "is it yours?"....durrrr no, it's stolen!

I seriously tell people its a replica all the time. Most people that roll down their windows are idiots anyway, no point in impressing them and the smart people get a laugh and appreciate their not talking to some stuck up kock who thinks he's above them

yes Ive been asked one time.. while getting out of the car at the store..

2 guys walking through the parking lot.. approaching the same store as me..

one of the guys said " hi there, is that a kit"..

I was honestly at a loss for words in the spur of the moment.. maybe even insulted abit that I was actually just asked this lol..

my door was still open, I kind of just smiled.. and pulled the lever for engine lid..
lifted the lid and said " does that look like a kit"

he kinda smiled dumb founded while looking in and replied " oh ok I guess not"..

he was obviously an individual who knew nothing about Ferraris.. and simply assumed it was a kit..

where anyone how has some interest in Ferraris, would know the difference right away..

I've been asked if its real a dozen times or do in my almost 6 years of ownership. Now I know how busty women feel when people ask, "are those real?" lol

Yes I've been asked that. By a woman in a taxi along Newbury St. my first year or so. She kept up the conversation at the next stop sign asking "Is it REALLY?" And I said yes and we talked a little about the year and the big sister Testarossa. She smiled again and leaned back into the window. Sadly my Rossina 348 Spider is totaled but the new 360 Spider is now insured and I am completing the paperwork for purchase.

There was a picture posted to FB by someone I don't know who said my car was the nicest kit car he'd ever seen. His reasoning to think it was a kit car was that it was parked at Home Depot and no one would take a real Ferrari there.

Heh. My car has seen a few HD runs in our time together as well... best one was when our local FCA president came walking up to me in the parking lot as I was leaving... his 355 was a couple of rows over. Our chapter rules. ;)

Early on in my ownership I had some wonky teenage kid ask me "If I built that myself"... uhhh... what? I replied... "No, it's not a kit... it's real"... to which he replied "Yeah, I know... but my uncle built one... a real one too!"

    uhhhh.. what?

I just nodded, finished pumping gas and left... all the while thinking "Your uncle built one.. a real one? Sooooo... do you mean he like surfed over to Ricambi, ordered every single part necessary and built his own 355 from scratch? Congrats, sir... you now own the first 2 Million dollar 355" Heheheh

    Teenagers are dim bulbs.
