For $9,600 I'd suspect that you could make a pretty penny in the parts off of that thing. :)

This poor car was left in the rain in Houston and the engine appears to have suffered significant water damage as a result. An initial evaluation of the car shows the engine to be frozen and water in the air intake hose. No evaluation of the electrical system has been conducted. Engine is in place. A few parts are missing including air intake cover and air conditioning compressor. Body and interior are in good condition. This car is being offered AS IS and without warranties.

That's a great start for a engine conversion.

how, in the hell, did "that" much water get in a injected cars engine, unless the plugs were OUT of the engine, in the rain ????????????

agree on the parts..... at that price i am surprised T Rutlands has not scooped it up.

it would be like a feeding frenzy, with all those fresh red 328 parts floating about.

    :)

I just cont understand why anyone would leave a car like this in the rain, money or not its just not done. If not rain then flood? I agree with above, how could that much water get into the engine from just rain?

That is a flood car sure it was left out in the rain then a flood hit it!

    Not unfixable but why bother.

I also like the fact that there are not pictures of the interior or the front end. Just the engien left in the rain my ass

Don't forget about the 145K miles on the clock --- even if the car had been well cared for, it would still be in need of major components R&R. My guess is that with that kind of mileage, the engine finally let go, and then it was parked outside --- with the intake hose / filter removed... plus who knows what else...

Talk about "ridden hard and put away wet" --- literally, in this case.

Hell, if the body is straight and clean, that alone is worth $10,000 to someone willing to spend the time parting it out. If everything else (minus the engine and trans) is good --- it may be worth $20,000+ as a rolling chassis...???

The rims are correct, the tire's profile is too low, however.

I'm with the flood crowd - hell maybe it's a Katrina car. A lot of those (not Ferraris though) going around being passed off as 'no issues'. There's no way rain did what we're seeing in the pics. Even if the hood were propped open (which is unlikely, esp considering the struts are shot on half the 328's out there it seems) I don't think rain could collect in that amount.

I was thinking of popping out to LV to see the car. I asked for some pics of the interior and if the car could be viewed. Here is what the guy said...

    Dear rimoore,

    Hi,

The car is at Penske-Wynn Ferrari dealer service department where
    she may be viewed."

It's at "Penske-Wynn"? They must be so proud. Hopefully they are keeping it out of site. I don't think people want to see a soggy 328. :)

It does not look too promising, I just can't imagine the night mare it would be to restore the car and the $$ involved. When you are done you could have bought a new F430

I'm trying to get into the used parts business. It could be worth parting it out.

If it's a flood car (hard to argue otherwise), all the valuable stuff is probably corroded (switches/switchgear, motors, gauges, hardware), and we know the mechanicals are toast.

Unless you're cutting it up for body panels, I really don't see all the enthusiasm for this car at $10K. After 145K miles, I'm guessing the useful trim parts (driving lights, grille, etc.) are going to be in ugly shape.

Could you part it out for more than $10K? Maybe, eventually, but it's not a windfall. I'm guessing Rutlands would have bought it if it was a collision car that had been pristine before impact.

    My two lira...

The body panels are worth a lot, especially the front. Some other parts may be useable. The wheels and glass are salable. The transaxle may be OK.

I'll put in my vote in for the flood car scenerio.

Could it be that someone in LV bought it off craigs list or something thinking they got a smok'in deal, then took it to W/P to have them look it over and found out the bad news and is now tring to unload it?

I know, I have an imagination but I wonder how far off I am???

    Cheers!
