After two plus years of enforced slumber S/N #10906 is back on the road. I just completed a 30,000 mile service and recessed both the front and rear bumpers to make the car look more like it was designed. Amongst other thing I've added/upgrades are a Pertronix ignition system, new VR rated Vredesteins and, for the time being, removed the A/C system pending a retro fit from RetroAir. Next project is to bring the body back to the original 20-W-152 (Bianco Polo Park) white. The guy I bought the car from (his mother and then he owned the car for 27 years) claims the car was always white on top with a blue "boxer" lower half. She had the car painted black in 1980... Working on the car I found blue overspray all around the bottom but never enough to match until I took the fiberglass lower nose off to repair and discovered some serious overspray in that area. I was able to get a direct match so my plan is to return the car to two-tone blue and white. The car is on the dino-gt4-registry basically as it looked when I got it eight years ago.

My literature says the car was originally black/black and blue. Maybe the white/blue boxer setup was the first repaint?

    Buzzpics,
Your literature is wrong. The paint code in the trunk is Glidden-Salchi 20-W-152 and I got a build sheet on the car from the factory agreeing with the all white original paint. What I did find was the muffler shroud, which would have been added by the dealer in July of 1975 as per tech bulletin 266/10, would have been painted to match the car. I started cleaning and repairing it yesterday because my wife wants the shroud re-installed and I discovered it was originally blue. It had been painted black in 1980 but under the black they were blue. Under the blue was nothing so it wasn't originally black then blue then black again. I am convinced the car was sold in two-tone white and blue. What I would like to know was if the car was painted that way by the dealer or because the first owner wanted it that way...

I have never heard or seen the Boxer Trim treatment being anything but satin black.

That is why so many questions from this crowd.

It might lead me to think it was an owner request, possibly an imaginative dealership.
Hard to say and the Factory records from those years can be vague, if available at all.

    BigTex,
I was thinking the color scheme was some kind of play to NART and American cars given the white top/blue bottom. My personal feeling is the dealer painted the car because after almost two full years they were tired of it sitting on their lot. I also think that is why none of the Ferrari directed mechanical upgrades were ever accomplished only the cosmetic ones. They were visible and brought in foot traffic...
