Hmm does this mean the evo issue will have a full review as well?

 

I bet Lambo and McLaren are 10000000000...x more anxious about the test #'s than any of use are! LOL...

 

I'll give you the final paragraph just to get you salivating until your mag arrives (and, besides, any more might be a bit copyrighty!)...

"Right now, the 458 Italia is the best way to spend your supercar-earmarked pounds, and even if you scraped together every last button to buy one, your wife left you and you had to take on a paper round to pay the three mortgages on your house, you'd still think you'd made the right move."

 

Wow. I don't normally buy Car magazine but going to go buy it first thing tommorrow.

Ok I haven't bought Car Magazine in a while, but judging by the preview it seems they have improved a lot!

 

Was this a true road test with timed tests, or just another driving impression article?
I'm hoping to see a true road test from someone soon.

 

Just bought it and read it. No timed tests or the likes.

Slightly off-topic but, they have a comparison test with the SLS, GTR and 997 turbo as well which is not bad.

 

No, no times or anything like that, just driving impressions. It's 9 page article but, by the look of it and the amount of page that's given over to photography, they're just stringing an article out based upon the brief time the press were given with the car. So, while it is nice to see it as an article within the pages of Car, there's not too much more to it than any of the other brief accounts. No doubt, once Car get a 458 at their leisure, they'll do their usual excellent best and give us the fully fleshed out story (as, of course, will all the others).

 

Here's another little taster to get you salivating until our mags reach your side of the water. This time from the new Top Gear magazine. Just a couple of lines to keep you going while you wait...

"The stunningly beautiful 458 Italia takes its driver to the edge of what's possible in a supercar."

"It's so quick it almost troubles me."

"Time spent with this car is time spent with your mouth open and brain re-adjusting."

"At what point does 'fast' become 'too fast'?"

 

Some of these comments seem like hyperbole. They make it sound like the 458 is the be-all-end-all in terms of speed..is it actually a good article in TG?

 

I only picked it up a few hours ago and I'm working at the moment so it's sitting on my desk for now. I'm saving it until I've got a bit of quality down time. Those quotes were from a quick scan.

Well I've had a chance to read the article. And you're right, those lines I posted do sound like hype. And there's quite a lot more of that kind of stuff in the article itself. In the course of the article, though, it doesn't sound too over the top. It actually just sounds like an amazing car! Mind you, car journalists, eh? I wonder if some of them have even sat in some of the supercars they review. Their impressions of some of these cars are so at odds with mine sometimes that I wonder if a press release is as close as they've come!
