My new 328 is black on black. And, well, its hot as hell here for most of the year. The Japanese have 1 knob & 2 sliders –less is more. The AC manual for the 328 was confusing. What do I do w/ the entire center console devoted to climate control in the Ferrari ? Gees, I just want AC.

If the ac in your 328 isn't keeping the car cool, you should get it checked something is not right somewhere, it should blow 45-50 degrees. more than enough to cool the cabin on a hot day, even on a black car.
They actually have a decent AC system.

A little cursing usually works most Italian cars.

I well understand your confusion if you are new to the 328. Basically, there are really only two knobs/dials you should learn about - both are on the center console.

The dials have colour-coded rings around them so they are easy to identify. The top left is in blue (which is the A/C dial - turn that clockwise as far as you choose) Next to the blue dial is the yellow dial which controls the fan/blower (this too turns clockwise and this you will want to turn up all the way to get the car cooler, faster)

Other than that, all you need to do is situate the vents to fit your comfort needs. The three circular dash vents (defroster vents) are the ones that will cool you off the most efficiently. There is also a set of vents (upper dash console) right under the radio housing. These can be directed for your comfort as well.

The heating is another set of directions all together..... I'm too hot thinking about heating controls now. Drop me a PM in say, October .... :)

I don't know anyone in Texas with a 308/328 that thinks their A/C system is even adequate. Mine works fine, but it sucks. The combination of a huge angled windshield letting in the sunlight, hot cooling hoses running through the cockpit, and an asthmatic blower with too few vents adds up to sweat. There is no escape.

Really. My Mondial can't handle sunny days above 80. Its only good for hot nights and cloudy days.

When I first got my 328, the AC ducts were disconnected behind the center console and the air blew like crazy down by my feet... but it cooled the entire car. I reconnected the ducts and noticed the center vents really restricted the airflow. As tacky as it was, the AC worked much better when the ducts were disconnected.

I was crawling around on the floor in my 328 a while back, and noticed there are also ducts under the dash, at least on the driver's side near the door. I think there's one on the passenger side too, but I don't recall. One more opportunity to adjust the climate control.

    Those ducts are for heat.

p.s. How do you crawl around on the floor of a 328?

You must be very tiny!!! :)

    I didn't know this trick!

If I knew & it were to work, I may kept 328. Black interiored 328 I had wasn't the car to drive during daytime here in Texas.

Someone posted to change a condensor (sp?), but that will result in battery shortage in the past thread. Hope you can find adequate solution.
