I am trying to sell my employer's '84 Mondial QV. Documentation that came with the car when he purchased it a few years ago says it's an "Italian Edition." Does anyone know what that means? All I know is its original owner was in Italy and the car was sent over to the U.S. later. Any help would be appreicated. Thanks.

This means it's a Euro model which was Federalized to US Standards.

Decode the VIN to see if it agrees, or doesn't agree, with being a LHD euro delivery.

I think "Federalized" was a fairly variable term in those days so you might want to know just what really was changed or not (although it's probably more important to have the right paperwork for presentation to the authorities rather than the present status of the car itself ;)):

    1. catalytic converter(s)?
    2. air injection system?
    3. Lambda feedback control added to injection system?
    4. Fuel evaporation control system?
    5. Sidemarker lights?
    6. Bumpers?

This isn't even close to the full list of differences (and what's important, and what isn't important, is different for different people), but just some of the larger items that come to mind for a knowledgable Seller or Buyer to know and consider IMO...

also the quick check is the center idiot gauge between the spedo and tach, top of the idiot gauge for Euro carts is the turn signal arrows the US one has the slowdown lights on the bottom pushing the order of the lights up one. pictures would make this description so much easier to understand.

I am clueless as to how to decode the VIN. According to the title the VIN is ZFFLD14B000049933. Does that make sense to anybody? Thanks.

VIN decoder confirms a Euro LHD car. So now you know what it is. Do you need recommendations on where to advertise the car?

"Do you need recommendations on where to advertise the car?"

ABSOLUTELY.. I've been trying to move it for 6-8 months but although I've gotten calls, most were from out of state and I haven't had luck getting people to come to see it... I'm in no means a car sales man, I just want to get this thing gone. He also has me selling a '68 Buick GS400 and a 1970 Mercedes 600. I can focus on my actual job when these things are sold. You can see the car on www.dhcars.com. He has me listing it at $26,500 but he is taking offers.

I've seen it listed in a couple of places, including eBay and Craigslist. Where is the car now, Orlando or Tampa?

Also, I'm not up to date on importation requirements so... does it come with the EPA/DOT documentation (see Steve's post above)?

Looked closely at the car and description. It looks like a nice example, I really like the color. How many miles does the car have on it now? You have some nice pictures on the website, I see the rust issue near the gas cap. Can you take a picture of the color sticker? The motor looks clean, interior has typical wear for My guess is the car as advertised would sell for about $20K given the rust issue.

The car is in Tampa. The rust around the gas cap is the only rust we know of. THe rest of the exterior is in great shape. The leather does have the typical wear. It's got a new A/C. The only other 2 problems that I am aware of is the passenger side window does not function (going up and down) properly. The trunk does not pop from the button on the dash, the cord needs to be pulled from the compartment in the back seat.
The car's write-up when it was purchased says it passed all EPA/DOT, however I have not seen any documentation. The car has been registered in Florida for 4 years. I'm fairly certain he would accept $20K for it.

I really appreciate everyone's help on here. I'm glad I came across this site. This seems like a genuinely good community of Ferrari enthusiasts.

On a personal note, since I was about 10 years old I've wanted a black Testarossa convertible and look forward to the day I have the means to get one. If anyone has photos of such a model I would love to see them, it is hard to find that specific car.

There are 30,766 km. Where do I find the "color sticker" to take a picture?

On the engine hood. Pop the hood and you'll see it, it is a yellow sticker with the paint code.

They didn't make factory convertibles on a TR (I think). Do a search here for the Slutmobile and you'll find something that will interest you.

I never realized they didn't make factory convertibles. I know I've seen them, I just didn't realize they were custom.

    Welcome to Euro land.
    I have a 1981 "B" car also.

Check left hand door frame for ARB sticker.
Check inside door for Side Impact Anti-intrusion Door-frame bars.
Check stupid a$$ front orange markers, (look like zits on a supermodel.)
    Check stupid a$$ bumpers.

    But,
    Aluminum Euro fuel distributor.
No smog pump in my clean headers.
    No EGR.
    Euro cams.
    Fiberglass bumperetts.
    No sunroof.

These are good points and are all for free

And how do you manage/navigate the paperwork side? You've got EPA/DOT papers? No one's ever even asked to see them? You have no emission inspection -- neither periodic nor on initial registration?, etc.. Just curious...

for me and my euro mondi, it was brought into CA during the grey days. anyways, once it's reg'd here you'll just have the smog to go thru, and all the smog places I've been to haven't seen these cars before and don't ask questions. heck the smog computer doesn't even have he info, they input it. I just got my SC thru smog without a question, ran thru cleaner then it ever has under NA. it's getting it federalized that makes it pointless and $$$$ if it's never been to CA before.

Thanks for the info -- but does this mean that there'd be more difficulty reselling your Mondial outside of a CA county with easy emission requirements? I know what you mean about the staff at the emission test location ;), but it is surprising they don't at least want to see something that looks like a cat -- or do you have cats on it?

What were you're latest test results on the Mondial and what were the test limits?

Unless your ARB (CARB now) sticker has an "X" under "Cat",,,
,, then you don't need them. (ha ha)
Plus, you will run under a higher CO limit, for older cars.

I will install cats for my inspection, , then run a custom exhaust made from various SS parts.
(Don't want to spend for a "Tubi.")

    Grey market cars rock!
Again,, check that left door frame.

    Edwardo

P.S. It is harder to smog in Denver, CO then in LA, California. I used to run my car up to Park County, CO each year to registure it.
    NO SMOG there.
