Hey all, I am looking for your suggestions for great Italian restaurants in New York City. My wife and I are going to be in the city for Valentines Day and want to try out a different Italian restaurant from where we usually go. I'm sure many of you have some great restaurants you have tried so post away! It doesn't matter if the place is a little hole in the wall with great food or a large place with great food. The only criteria is that it must have GREAT food! We usually go to Coppolas which is great but want to try someplace different for Valentines Day. It doesn't matter on the price either.

So if you all have any suggestions, post away, along with a website if the restaurant has one and general price range for entrees.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Well, you certainly have your choice of restaurants!

Some I could recommend, with qualifier (all unique in their own way):

Family style: Carmine's. I prefer the one in the theater district (W 44th street)
Expensive: Babbo - this is Mario Batali's place...probably hard to get into, so make a reservation if possible (maybe too late for that now)
Super authentic pizza: Una Pizza Napoletana - serves only pizza, but true, authentic Neapolitan style pizza. Anthony Mangieri (proprietor) is a Jersey boy that is as obsessed about pizza as the Soup Nazi is about soup.

Been to Carmines in the theater district, excellent food. Not really looking for Pizza so that is out. Will look into Bebbo. Any other suggestions, keep em coming.

I'm doing the exact same thing - my NYC buddies put me on to Po in the west village - it used to be Batali's place and is $20-25/plate. I got a reservation last week . . .

Well we decided to go t Benjamin Steakhouse on 41st St. Absolutely fantastic! My wife had the Salmon and I had the Porterhouse Steak. We also had a side of mashed potatoes and a glass of wine each. We also had 2 thick slices of Canadian Bacon for an appetizer! HOLY S#@T, absolutely amazing. The Service was top notch and the ambiance of the restaurant was spectacular. All in all, our bill was $130.00 for the two of us not including the tip. If anyone is looking for a great steakhouse, do not miss this one!
