What's the format for the event? How many run groups, how are run groups decided, how much track time, etc? Also, what configuration are they running - ROVAL with the infield plus a chicane on the front straight?

Each group will get 4 30-minuite sessions. Lunch is included in the Lone Star Clubhouse for the driver. If the driver has a guest it is about $15 for an extra lunch. The track is the LeMans course (inner track), not the roval.

Texas Driving Experience will conduct the event. When Registration is complete, TDE will divide entrants into appropriate classes.

Please note: August registration is $150. If you register in Sept. the price is $200. So you may wish to consider registering now.

If you want all the details, please contact Dawn Stokes of TDE by e-mail or phone at (817)430-4343. And she can send you a registration form.

I'm passing. I think this would be fun for a beginner, assuming instuctors are available, but I was less than impressed with the infield the one time I drove TMS. There are no elevation changes, no camber or off-camber turns, and the track is pretty short. I think the LeMans course uses more of the infield than what I drove, but looking at the map it doesn't seem to offer too much excitement.

The ROVAL is more interesting. Driving on the banking is something I haven't done much, negotiating the chicane is difficult to do at speed, and the entry and exit from the infield was fun. That said, I can see why they are only running the infield - its A LOT safer and a lot easier on the car.

The TMS walls eat cars, I guess they build a huge appetite with NASCAR there and when sick of American food, what is better than Italian! :)

On the infield course watch the entrance to the infield straight which is the left-right switch back. Tank slapper there and you'll be lucky to shoot infield, if not, then you will hit the outside wall. On the East side be careful the right-left and the cement walls protecting the fire hydrant right at the exit! I think tires there last time, but when I ran there were no tires.

I'll post my TMS infield video with the 355 C. It was fun a couple times. You get dizzy, 30 something second laps.

Similar thinking... but different conclusion. I want to do it "someday" just to experience it myself... burning a serious track day on it though, doesn't make sense for the reasons you mention. But I enjoy just running around and following different Ferraris at full song... so, I'll have fun doing that... and get to experience the track.

But 30s laps? Now I really REALLY hope they don't put >20 cars on the track at once... it'll turn into "parade laps". I just have to remember... I'm going to see the Ferraris!

30 laps will last about 15 minutes. With your car and driving 6-8 cars will be crowded. However, the west straight away is long enough to pass plenty cars. That is if everyone plays nice and gets off the gas to help you pass quickly. If not, just another 25 seconds behind the car before you do it again. :)

Hi Guys and Ladies, The Italian CarFest is all about people and their cars! It affords special cars a day at the second largest sporting venue in the USA. No detail will be missed from Brunch for observers, lunch, original TMS garages for the day and a blast for owners and their cars to experience a safe and personally challenging day at the track!

TDE will divide the groups based on the drivers desire for speed. TDE will place people of like skill and speed desire and according to their track experience. ICF is not a race but rather a safe venue that you can drive your car and get some high speed practice.

The TMS Infield Road Course is a deceiving course, if done correctly, and few seldom master it. For those that desire an adreniline day with education and a place to show off your sweet ride....ICF is a "Must Do"!

Here's the video when I ran the infield 2003. From running TMS in the SRX7 and RX8 you want to brake deep and late apex both of the 180 sweepers. Nail those apexes on the way out. Notice I'm about a foot off. :( See how far I've improved, I've spent about 50 days at the track since this video and it took that long to nail those last 12 inches. ;)

Sorry about the mirror, I've since adjusted my camera and have a wide angle lens.

This track event was with Sport Bike Hype, not sure if they're around anymore. They use to do infield track events for $55!

About 5 years ago (before I learned to read Italian wiring diagrams) I participated with my Triumph Spitfire in a Triumph track day at MSR. The cost was only $75!

The Spitfires ate up the TR6s in the turns, which was awfully fun. Of
course, they nailed us on the straight-aways. Jack Farr shook his head
afterward as he told us ours was the slowest group in the history of his
track. I suppose unless he has run Cushman scooters on the course that
we may still hold the record!

Hey Rob I didn't know you did the SportBike Hype events. They no longer run cars but Panoz picked it up.

I've always enjoyed TMS infield and it's inexpensive track time. The track isn't as long as MSR but it's still fun. Panoz still does the events for $75-95 for 2 plus hours.

Same thing for me - I will be there too. A couple of those infield corners are quite technical and hard to do fast. Easy corners but also easy off if your dynamics are wrong.
