"We will not agree with the ban on selling fossil-fuel-powered cars," he told the iDnes news website on Wednesday. "It's not possible. We can't dictate here what green fanatics devised in the European Parliament." The nation, one of the world's top automotive producers on a per-capita basis, will make the topic a priority when it assumes the EU's rotating presidency in the second half of 2022, Babis said. Czechs will support an infrastructure for electric vehicles but will not subsidize their actual production, he said. The automotive industry accounts for almost third of the Czech economy. The nation is home to Volkswagen Group's Skoda brand, which has two car factories in the country. Toyota and Hyundai also build cars in the country. Babis, who is aiming for re-election next month, is prioritizing protecting national interests and being at the forefront of EU policy making.
… ahh the fanciful dream of the typical deluded Brexit voter and their desperate desire for their evident mistake to be exonerated. Not only will the EU continue to exist in 2030, in all likelihood the UK will be in the process of re-applying for membership as the next generation takes ownership of the political agenda. Anyway, see you back here in 2031, and we can see who’s right
I wouldn’t want this thread to get shut down for P&R so let’s leave our feelings on the pros and cons of the EU to one side and talk practicality. Can anybody with an understanding of EU legislative processes answer the following question. To what extent can Italy, and Czechia veto or modify EU policy on this?
In Germany there is very strong car-lobby and a lot of employees work for Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Porsche, so I think it will last a long time for a maximum speed everywhere on the highways in Germany will arrive, because that would be not in their interest. Why buy a fast car, if you cannot drive fast anywhere, apart from circuits where only a few people will drive their car.
You mean the same car lobby that successfully defended its core business of building ICE cars? Things have changed here in Germany as well. Even the manufacturers seem not really to care anymore about speed limits. Probably because they exactly know that people won't complain that much about mileage of e-cars when not speeding permanently. It all depends what comes out of this week's elections. Many parties "promised" a speed limit and chances are not to bad that those parties will be a major part of the new government.
Man, these Eastern Europeans are badass, on almost everything. I believe they are the ones who will save Europe from those incompetents from Brussels. Congrats Czechia!!
If I had to bet today, I would bet that the UK will better off in 2030 and the EU will be worse off, in a heartbeat.
These manufacturers are all backing the end of ICE behind the scenes. They realize they can milk great subsidies and increase their profit with electric cars. All that orchestrated by these corrupt politicians. It's incredible how this "CO2 religion" grew so much in Germany and all the media brainwashed the people with this lie. Germans are very smart but at the same time also headstrong and naive. They believe and follow whatever the politician in power says them to do, until the very end.
Well, we'll see who was right in 2030. I'll be on here (health permitting) and we can start a thread about it in the right section.
