Italy targeting Ferraris to catch tax evaders...

God know how many times I got stopped in the 599 in the past couple of years for "random checks" by the various law enforcement entities in Italy...

It feels a bit like a witch-hunt to be honest. In this current climate it almost feels like a crime to drive an Fcar in Italy.

As you said, however, there will be some very interesting deals coming up on the Italian second-hand car market.

 

This is one of the main reasons it's so difficult to log serial numbers from Italian Ferrari owners and Ferraris in Italy.

 

jeez...this whole world is going to **** by bureaucrates and busy bodies govn'ts.....isn't this technically "profiling" = hey you have nice stuff, so you "must" be a criminal .....ugh

 

Surely it only bothers those who have something to hide? Sure, getting a random pull may be a minor inconvenience, but I'd rather that than have people swanning around and getting off with taxes and insurance and all the rest of it that us normal people have to pay.

 

Since I'm in the market for an F-car, I kind of hope the posters thoughts above come true, as any break in the price would be most helpful right now.

However, I doubt the market will cave in. I suspect most Italian F-car owners won't be giving up their luxuries. They will learn to shrug their shoulders at the evolving tax structure and pay up...just like we do in Canada...and they will continue to enjoy their F-cars and cappuccinos while living the lifestyle they have become accustomed to.

Image is big deal and nobody wants to have their's shrink in front of their neighbours and family. Just think, once the underground economy gets under control, if you're seen driving an F-car, then everyone will know you have the wherewithal. Demand might even go up!

 

I dont think it is that easy. Dont forget people who are not paying taxes because they cant declare their income (illegal activities). If these people are part of those caught in the article, it will be harder for them to come clean and pay taxes. I guess it depends how hard the italians will look at each case.

 

I also do get stopped relatively often, but usually it's because the officers are curious about the car, it's the first they ever saw, or want to know more about it and have a look and a chat. Maybe they're more benevolent with Alfa Romeos?

 

So they will clean up some vice and organized crime along with getting the taxes owed, sounds like a good over all for their Nation to me.

I agree to the extent tax evaders should be caught and prosecuted, whether in Italy or the USA. If everyone paid the taxes they owed, the tax rate for everyone would be lower.

 

Italians are not going to turn into Canadians-- rather, they will find new loopholes or ways to get around the taxes.

Tax evasion is illegal and it's just one more reason people might profile Ferrari drivers as being shady.

Good for the government in this case. White collar crime doesn't bode well with me.

 

All fine in theory but I get irritated by being singled out. In Holland there were tax guys lying in the bushes at a Ferrari charity event for cancer kids, writing down number plates. They do not do this at Porsche events or other expensive car events. It it is very specifically Ferrari they do this with. To me, that is just pettiness fueled by jealousy. And it seems the Italian government is doing something similarly biased. I am already expecting trouble when I pick up my 458 at the factory on export plates, upcoming May. I'll make doubly sure I have my paperwork in order and will try to avoid unwanted attention.

This issue was not only happening in Italy but over the world. That makes the economy on every country decreasing and getting worst. I hope this tax evaders will be caught and give them what they deserve.

 

On this website, many used Ferrari for sale. As I could see, no big drop in prices but a lot of cars : more than 2000... according to below figures :

I am sorry but, never this will happen. If you make more profit at your shop/whatever you lower the prices the next year???
Time tells what will happen in Italy, passionata will stick I am sure...

 

I don't agree on this. Even though those tax evaders pay their taxes, the taxes still be the same.

 

Here in the states our politicians love lowering our tax rates even if it means going further in debt, so I'm in favor of holding everyone accountable.

 

At least they are bright enough not to go after the guys driving the 70's Fiat 500's.

+1 and if 'white collar' crime were dealt with and effectively, 'Occupy whater' wouldnt matter at all. That being said the corruption in governments could also use a finer microscope so collected tax was used effectively as well.
One can only hope.

 

Here in the States, the "evil Bush tax cuts" were put into play based on the 2000 budget surplus. Taxes might not always be cut when more revenue appears, but it makes it very hard for a politician to get higher ones approved when they are already flush from folks paying their fair share.
