The only person who thought my 348 Challenge was a Testarossa was… wait for it…. a guy in the Ferrari Club. Seriously. When I take the 550 to places where there are obviously not car people, I get "That's the car from Bad Boys 2!!!!"
I'm not sure why it bothers people so much. Remember we are talking about the people who elected our political leaders. Don't expect too much.
I own a 308 and once got. Hey is that the Miami Vice car??? I smiled and said it's the Smokey and the Bandit car.
...or as George Carlin once said: "think about how smart the average American is...and remember, half the country is dumber than that"
I think most of the "nice mustang" and "kit-car" comments are sad attempts to upset the owners. I personally know a few of the people who have made comments like these to me, and they knew damn well it isn't a Mustang, or a kit-car being ex-car guys. They are all very poor and addicted to heroin. Not joking one little bit, it's really pathetic.
It wouldn't bother me. The people who would confuse some of these cars are NOT car people. I was driving one of my Pantera's when one person asked me if it was a Lamborghini. The Detomaso script was right in front of him. Some times there is a disconnect between what people see and their perception of what they think they see.
That is even more reason not to take these people seriously, especially if you know them and their situation. Ask them what drugs they are on and if they have trouble reading.
My immediate boss refuses to call it a Ferrari. Says things like "your Porsche" or "what's that red car you have?"
No, half the country is dumber than the mean, not the average unless it's a symmetrical distribution. George must have been in the lower half.
Hey if people really are out of touch that bad I am going sell my 355 and put an enzo sticker on the back of my wife's Taurus
I can't speak for the others who have posted in this thread but for Myself personally, the remarks don't bother Me at all, I'm merely repeating some of the comments that have been made to Me about My car. I'd add that knowing what a bunch of p:censored:ss taking B:censored:ds I work with, I nicknamed My 348 TS "The FIAT" before they could, to steal their mickey taking thunder!
I've gotten the Mustang comment once. Also get the Testarossa comment but at least that's more in the ballpark than a Mustang. In fact I like the Testarossa reference. That's why I bought it and got my RSSINA vanity plate. Gotten the 'real one, kit car, and Fiero comment. My neighbor actually said the Fiero comment. He still has issues with my car since he is a so called real estate guy who's struggling with some bad rentals and a house he just reno-ed and hasn't sold for months. He might just destroy the snow blower while were at it this winter.
"Nice Toyota". Me "Yes it is". I even had my Mondial called a Toyota MR2. I admit from a hundred yards off even a replica F355 can fool me if it's dark with no lighting, but a Mondial? Really? As said I think it is an attempt to annoy the owner. I don't care myself
