It's Alive....Austin USGP...In Some People's Minds Anyway

I've done plenty of business in Austin and that airport is NO problem at all. I'll have no problem flying in with all my family to catch a race there. The naysayers may be justified in their cynicism but if the money is there, and if 24 months is enough (that's still a BIG question) this will work.

 

Apparently Mr. Hellmund has not heard of Simon Gillette, or the 17 year deal for the British Grand Prix at Donington starting in 2010. What stopped the deal from becoming reality? Finances. Had Mr. Ecclestone embarked on the deal? Absolutely.

Maybe Mr. Hellmund does know that story, but then he should assume that F1 fans know it as well - and in that case, he should know that he'd better come up with much better reassurances than that if he wants to be believed.

 

This is all academic.

There is no Austin GP, there won't be - not in 2012 and not ever.

This whole project is wholly and entirely a negotiation ploy from Bernie to get Indy back to the negotiation table.

The "we could have a second USGP" is Berniespeak for "don't screen our calls, Indy, we still want to talk!".

If either race (Austin or the claimed 2nd USGP Bernie spoke of), then he'll be happy. But I can plant a magic bean and hope I have a beanstalk to the sky tomorrow too - I know it won't happen, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't be happy if it did
