22 months in rehab. you name it, it was either replaced or restored. runs like a dream now. the beast is back !
yes it is, and i was displeased as you might imagine....but here is how that happened. delivered to H&S in mid Dec 2019 assessment of order of work over the month of Jan 2020 bought the bladders in Jan 2020 other parts search started thereafter. COVID hits in Italy....... COVID hits in the USA Houston shuts down April - June 2020 half of H&S leaves... parts trickle in. August 2020 in Italy... work start in earnest about September 2020 thereafter there were a series of discoveries made for work that was either unexpected and essential, and then work that was not necessarily essential but needed and recommended....which either required additional parts and/or fabrication. and i was not necessarily in a hurry since my work started picking up in q2 of this year which required me to travel again, then it was summer in Houston....which is really not great weather to roll around in an F40, so i did not pressure Haris to finish, and he was overwhelmed with work (he is THE guy for every super/hyper car within about 500 miles of Houston, and during Covid everybody decided to have work done). anyway, it was a long time, but there were many reasons why, and why i was not overly bothered by that. the end result is that far more work was done than originally intended, and the car is probably close to (if not better in some aspects) than it was when new in 1990. (and i thought of your words of advice many times Joe ) and i can honestly say that it runs better than it ever did, and i am very pleased with the work done. i will run it for a few weeks and then it will go to Cavallo for a cosmetic makeover and clear film to be ready in time for the Ferrari festival here right after thanksgiving.

Indeed COVID-19 threw a wrench in the works, the important thing is the car is now back on the road, Bravo.
this car is already upgraded. it has the 2nd gen turbos that spin up a bit faster, the bigger brembos, the tubi, the lowered suspension, and then other stuff like automatic fire extinguisher system was upgraded. Haris said similar things to Bob Houghton when they last had it 10 years ago, that as a euro it already runs a bit faster than the usa version, but that mine seems to have more like 550+bhp. so it is fast. what i like about it now is that Haris put the engine back to original factory tune, so the boost comes on gradually with the revs, starting lower and ending higher, vs where it had been tuned previously (by somebody else before my ownership) to come on quite suddenly around 4k, and then to fade just as quickly after 6k. now it starts to build around 3k and i feel it all the way to 7.5k or so. much more manageable and fluid imo. the other great thing was redoing all the electrics. most of the cabling was swapped out for fresh wires, and gold connectors....so now it starts at any temp any time. no hiccups.
Ross - How are the roads around Houston ? Do you plan on driving this often for a weekend spin ? Wicked car ! MDS
the roads in houston are terrible - 3rd world quality. the roads around houston are mostly just straight lines since it is very flat here, and doesnt get hilly until you get to san antonio and austin. but nevertheless, i will be driving this car, like i do all my cars, as much as i can. in houston, if you see a ferrari that is older than 25 years on the road, then it is likely to be me. only 1-2 other guys i know with these cars that actually venture beyond their driveways. i have been out all weekend with the f40....quite fun !

lol my BIL and his SIL (my nephew in law?) went to see 007 the other day and happened upon this car show. they sent me a pic of an F40, knowing that's my favorite car...and it's yours small world.
yea thats mine. i frequently go to catalina, along with some likeminded friends. its a funky cars and coffee, with an eclectic mix of cars and car people - but car people can appreciate all kinds. anyway, i thought it would be fun to do a cannon ball in the pool, and took the f40 last weekend. one nice side benefit was that a few huracans showed up, saw they were outclassed, and then promptly left
Reading this makes me want to pull the trigger on an F40 more than I already have wanted to. Oh man 2022 may have just got expensive. Enjoy!
