I really hope they produce this car. It really seems that they will. All the execs claimed it was a prototype with production built in mind. They claimed all they were looking for was enough serious buyers. They would not have difficulty selling at least 100 cars worldwide. AMG is going to produce the mill. The Bug is also running into difficulties. They have restricted the car ( The Bug) without dropping the price ~ ! A few years ago they were beating their drum, to the tune of 250mph. There has to be plenty of serious folks, who want a vehicle with a hard-core AMG engine. This thing is amazing. I hope they produce the ME 412. What a car. What a bargain. A.J. I want a ride. Congrats.
From what my inside sources tell me,they have taken over 70 deposits already. The word is 95% at this point.
wow, i just dont see myself paying THAT MUCH!!! for a chrysler. But that car does look really sweet!!! congrats!
Thank you.Im not into the name thing.Hell, people are going to pay 230-240 for a ford very soon.Times have changed. With the merging of companies that are taking place in the industry today, things are changing daily.Chrysler is of course the other half of Daimler/Chrysler.And you get the technology of both companies in all the cars they manufacture. You can definately see Mercedes in the ME412.
This car would most certainly replace the S7 as the number one true exotic supercar in america. I love this car.
And this car is really the car that the SLR *could have been." It's a slap in the face when the "lower cost" division creates a supercar that is better than the luxury division! It would be great at $330-40k... little more than the Murci conv't, $60k less than the Saleen and nearly $100k less than the CGT.
Raylex, you and I think alike. I was going to say the same thing about the "could have been the SLR" point also. It's sad to see that even though the SLR delivers top-notch performance, it is clouded in with other cars such as it's very own SL65 and the fact that it remains a regular automatic transmission.
This car is GORGEOUS. I don't know how people complain about the styling. The rear, for example, I think is awesome! Can't wait to see the production version.
There are alot of political issues involved here. The divisions have been fighting within for awhile now.Wolfgang Bernhard has been the C.O.O. for the Chrysler group for several years.Prior to that ,he was the CEO of the AMG group of MB.He is a gear head,to the max. When the SLR beat him to the punch with the 12cyl turbo car,he was pizzed. He has felt that Dodge should always hold the h.p. crown with the Viper. That led him to develop the ME412,in 1 year.In addition,he put the wheels in motion to best the Benz quickly, with the upcoming 625 hp Viper, and follow it up with the ME412 in 2 years. Then he went and got promoted to the head of the MB Group, and that didnt last long. His personality didnt fit with the conservative "others",and he is leaving or has left Daimler/Chrysler all together. Its a shame. This is the guy who rode the Viper v-10 motorcycle out on the stage 2 years ago,and the ME412 this year. But the wheels have already been put in motion for this vehicle(the ME412),and Wolfgang has left a strong group of loyalists to oversee this project.Just some background.
I thought the ME 412 was in position to be the # 1 Supercar in the world. The Bug is supposed to be restricted. The ME 412 was gunning for the Bug. The ME 412 is aiming for 250 mph stock. Nameplate or not ~ That car is something else. The interior looks smokin.
The *only* quibble I had was I didn't like the vertical grooves running up the hood. I know, I know, that's Chrysler's "Art-Deco Futuristica" identity on this current generation. I could overlook that if it sounds good, though. Vraa - yes the SLR was a disppointment. It had so much promise -- and undoubtedly is blazingly fast -- but it's just so warped-looking and in automatic. It may have an SMG/F-1 like automanual, but I didn't think it had paddles. I was so excited to see it at the last car show I went to, and at first look it is has a lot of "wow"... BUT, after standing and watching the turntable rotate 4-5 times and letting it really sink in, the proportions really start to look like the "Unambiguously Gay Duo" car posted earlier. I can't see the McLaren boys standing by it with a lot of pride, given there previous foray into the supercar market. Hopefully they'll make their own worthy F1 successor as is rumored.
I really do not know why people make such a fuss about the McLaren cars. Be realistic. They are seven figure cars. Other manufacturers can do the same (or better), if they want you to drop seven figures on their car. Why would anyone buy one ? Would'nt you really want a P-51 instead ? How about this: The ME 412, T-28C, Ducati 998, MV, Jewlery for your wife, some cash left over, and some rental property ? "or" you can squeeze a few tenths more on performance, if and when the next generation McLaren comes out. It is not quantity over quality. The choice is yours.
True, but I think they get credit for saying, "we're making a $1M car" and then they actually did it. I don't doubt that other manufacturers *could* make an even better $1M car... but they don't! And with time I'm sure someone will beat the F1 for far less cost (for those who don't believe that the Enzo isn't better, although I think it is), but I think the gumption req'd for such a project was a large part of the F1 lore.
For 50K you get a Z06. For 190K you get a GT-2. For 275K you get a Murcielago. For 650K you get an Enzo. As you go up the latter, the performance gains become less and less. What is the point ? The ME 412 will be a bargain. What can the new McLaren offer over the ME 412 ? If they can build a ME 412 for the 330K range, what could they build for 1M ?
Hey, I'm not looking to get dragged into a debate defending McLaren here, I just said they should be disappointed with the SLR... I much prefer the ME412 as the prototype than the SLR!
I AGREE the SLR is a joke. The McLaren is a superb car. I like the specs on the car. I just do not see how it is worth 1M. The 1M was also in 1990's $$$. I suppose you would need to add a few more pennies today. Cmon Ryan. Forget the P-51. Start saving for your M car.
6.0SE - have they indicated how many deposits they'll need to go forward with it? Or does it seem a done deal already with 70?
85 was the number I was told.I guess they figure if they get that as a base, prospects are good for the balance.
Man, if I were you, I'd be getting so antsy and excited... like when I was 10 and there was a new videogame system coming out - times 100! And to have a deposit already!!?! I'd be a basket case of happy anxiety.
