pretty pointless post incoming, so i apologize in advance and give you a heads up to click away if you arent interested in a little fandom, but the 355 is in my head. ive owned a 308 for a few years now and its been fantastic. enjoy the car very much but always figured i would sell to upgrade someday. the 355 is just one of the best looking cars ever, and the sound is almost undebateble. plus im sure the power and speed it offers is still plenty satisfying, certainly for a guy coming from a 308 id imagine. wrote the 355 off my list a long time ago entirely because of maintenance, mostly because of it needing the engine out. figured id skip over to a 360 when the time came.

that was until recently when, after not seeing a 355 on the road in probably a year+, i saw two in one week, and they were simply stunning. checked ferrariads and was near shocked to find more than a couple are in the 50k range. i gotta say maintenance cost be damned, <60k for a 355 is the exotic car bargain of the century. the 360 is still a tad out of my comfort zone, but if i flip the 308 for a decent price, the 355 is right there for me and that might just be a little too tempting to resist.

so ive been reading on the maintenance and Im finding a fair number of owners have done their own service. id like to ask for opinions on this. are these brave souls who attempt this job tenacious nut jobs, or is it really reasonable for a home mechanic to tackle? i personally am an average mechanic at best, but my father who is now retired is excellent. his mechanics resume is extensive, mostly in muscle cars with full on restos, a kit cobra build, tons of maintenance work on my old dodges, quite a number of scca racecars built, etc. he also has lifts, though they are the full length style where the car still sits on its wheels rather than being elevated at jack points, which isnt ideal for an engine out service. but to get to the point, if i could convince him, does it sound like he has the skills to maintain a car like this? and if i did take it to a good shop, how much am i looking at? i seem to recall numbers close to 10k for a major?

apologize for the long post. i will use the search to find out about maintenance, im sure these questions have been answered before. ill be lurking this forum now to figure these cars out. really i wanted to say that im getting excited about the possibilities and i just wanted to share that enthusiasm with others whom i know feel exactly the same. and if you wanted to post pics of your car, i wouldnt object :) a red or yellow with a challenge grill is automotive perfection

A Ferrari is "just a mechanical contraption". Your father has the skills and most of the tools to do "just about anything". All he would need is access to the WSM: available at::
