Too bad, because I would have shown my W108 280S 1970. But since this is not a forum Mercedes I do not show you pictures of her. Too bad! I just do the restore and I also like a Ferrari, I told myself that I could make you share my pleasure. Beautiful, and can't be beat for comfort. These remind me of the cold war era spy movies, the bad guys always drove them.
VERY nice! We actually have some Sections for other marques, they are down the page, but the 400i guys are all cool cats, so this is a good place for your post! Welcome!
I owned a 280SE many years ago. I wish I had it back. I'd bang a Vintage Air setup into that baby and drive away. Jack.
why not! Maybe we should highjack this thread to show you other cars you own or owned. Just sold (basically gave away) the Barracuda to my Lambo-buddy. Fun car, 4 speed manual and the Commando engine with a 150HP wonderbottle. Still kinda feel stupid that I have sold it, but I needed the space. Fast car, on 10 inch drum brakes The Maserati is still in the garage and will not leave us. Got married in that car years ago. I also still own my first car. A yellow 78 Fiat X1/9, a really fun car. It drives and feels like a 308, but without the power My wife also owns a 73 Plymouth Scamp, that now is in serious need of restoration. I just welded in a new floor, and if time permits I will continue the rest of the welding this summer. We also own 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees, same color, same year. One is at our other house in Sweden and the one is basically our family car in Holland. Yesterday I put in a DVD player with a surround sound system to make the traffic jams more bearable. I drive a Mercedes W168L CDI as a daily driver. Small but the same interior space as the Jeeps! Boooooring car but VERY cheap to run. And as you may know, gas and diesel costs a fortune here in Europe, i will stick to it until it dies on me Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Peter, if he will need a car, I think we can find you one! It's a car for each day of the week you have! In any case they are all beautiful and full of memories I see. Yes it is normal to present our other cars when you are the owner of a 400 series. You have beautiful cars.
Nicely done. Automobiles are like women I can find something I like in all of them! However my wife might object to having one of either for every day of the week.
My 400 is the odd man out in a collection of MB 230SL, 300SE Coupe, both early sixties, then a pair of seventies SLC, the direct competitor to the Ferrari 400. Efficient, quiet, reliable... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
All women are same, or almost. A little story: my wife drives a Peugeot 207 small car for the city, no problem. Recently I bought a Mercedes 560 Sec 1988 and I told her that for her. I show him a picture, she likes a lot. His response: It is not too powerful? My answer: No it is just 560 CC is a small motor .... She is happy. I will disconnect the motor and put pedals set, I think. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ah yess,Theodore...the last of the big coupes. Wonderful rides, engineered craftmanship. They don't make them like this anymore. 560 cc's! Laughing out loud...more like 560 cubic inches, not quite tho. My 230SL has come a long way.I've learned a bit along this way, mostly Cheop's Law. 300 Man,the SLC is very underrated. It's a fine auto that deserves more respect. Your others are very fine, too. Interior pics of them?... Cheers, RE ps,ignore that lurker behind there, seemed like a good idea at the time...the new R is much better... Man, I love the W126 SECs. But I'm afraid my wife would kill me if I brought another one. You see, there was this little incident, and you know how a woman's mind works. I have actually tracked down a primo 500E with less than 50k miles and a super anal owner. Common sense says I should go with this; but damn, those big bruisers are sweet. As a matter of record and fact, said Mr.Plaintiff,I needs all the hepp I kin git...tell about it. But really Dale your jones for a 500 was hitting the heights, wasn't it? And the one pic'd ain't it? Well,do sumthin...that lil P-car engined hotrod wants to roll! And if Isobel is right, and he usually states fact, that Hatch baby will require a close review. ...ouff,just visited Hatch, that is the Silver Streak...a beauty...and knowing those guys hi as a cat's back... So now it's plan A or plan B...decisions,decisions. Cheers! And best wishes,Professor. RE
Yeah, I know about the Hatch car. They want $5k to $6k more than my local seller. Long story short, I have finished 22 of 39 treatments. Nothin gonna happen till that's over. Dale
Dale, Yes on your story, and all of us are cheering in mind and spirit and if you needed a body I'll wager dozens would be there on the morrow if the dime was dropped. And at MDA you're in the big league, the show and apparently over the hump.Keep up the good work. But far be it from me to be a voice of unreasoned impetuosity,on your behalf anyway,so here's the question: how hot does the iron in the fire have to be?To be struck? For you it could be about the numbers, but for me it was the fever, the fire...and yep I've been burned. But most of the scars have healed up fairly well, just a flesh wound ha ha. And 26,9 Jim at Hatch said they had over 8 in work, and I wonder why so hi repairs? What he mentioned was the usual suspects pumps, brakes units etc. It must have been used in NE winters. So,If,if my sec was for sale I can't get that and I have close to half the miles and condition looks comparable...so the 500 is more car than the sec? I know they are different,very...one sleeps and flies and the other rides and does it big but the market speaks. Tell your driving impressions of the two. Cheers again, RE Ps,Jim said they got over 40 for the SL w/1400 miles...holey molly
Here's some interior pics of the SLC and 230SL, haven't got any good ones of the 300SE but it's in the same condition as the other two, except that it's leather whereas the others are MBtex. My other SLC, the 450 has got original 'Champagne' velour seats, very dated but rather sweet and in such fine condition that I dont want to swap for leather.
