I just had to say that... Hi everyone! I guess this is as good a time as any to do the de-lurk thing... The wife and I bought the green '78 GTB down at FoH last week and it seems I've spent every waking moment of the last 10 days working the search out in an attempt to learn what a serious GQ needs to be happy again. So, before I go and slam you all down in Technical Q&A I thought it might be prudent to introduce ourselves, our new to us car, and take the time to thank you all for the help you've already given. awesome man, i love the 308 in that color. If you enter it into shows it will win b/c there is one round here in philly that takes almost every show.
Very cool. I was actually looking at that car myself. Congrats on pulling the trigger. I think that you brought one heck of a car. Just remember to drive it like you stole it. Dale
My friend and user Michael355 has a green F355 Spider. The name of the color is "verde scuro" I believe. He usually hangs out in the NY/Tri-State forum. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Rob, Nice car and looks to be a very original example! More pictures, please. Hey, it may be hard being green, but harder for us....we're green with envy! Great choice. I had a 78 308 GTS and it was a wonderful driving car. Loved the carbs screaming over 7,000 rpm! Dave
Welcome to the non red club. In my remote city, color doesn't matter. As long as its a Ferrari people can appreciate it in any color. I love the 308 in silver also. In fact, most colors work on fcars.
Rob - I'm sorry to inform you. You have now been infected by the incurable Ferrari virus. That's about it. You're done. Finished. Life as you knew it, is over. CONGRATULATIONS !! WELCOME ABOARD ! -Daniel
Congrats, nice car and definitely interesting colour. Enjoy the feeling and the ride. Welcome to the club.
Thanks for all the kind words everyone! More pics to be found here: www.pbase.com/moku/ferrari The car is extremely clean and original. Paint, trim, and interior are damned near flawless. Undercarriage clean and floorpan has but one small poke under the driver seat. Front valence has a few small scratches on its underside. Engine compartment has exactly the right patina you would expect and all smog stuff is intact and working. (Thank God...) The car was originally from down in LA and appears to have spent its life there until 2001 when it moved to the Houston area. Documentation is almost hole free with the only specifics missing being that of the original owner. Plates and registrations continuous from just about day 1. Service history is thorough and to date with the 15k major being done in '91 at 12.5k... (!) That was the scary part. I really needed to drive the car to get a general feel and sense for its solidity but was scared sh!tless to really put the boot to her. All I could think about was dropping a belt out on the 59 in Monday morning traffic. Still makes me shiver! She's tight but is, as you would expect, running like crap. Having gone roughly 2000 miles in the last 14 years has really taken its toll. Carbs and dizzies need a thorough overhaul and, obviously, its time to do belts, seals, tensioners, outer timing gear bearings, water pump, etc. Not to mention every single hose in the car. I can't wait! So, I can't say we stole the car but for 27k I feel we did well. She just needs a whole lotta luvin to be a reliable runner again. We surely didn't buy her to let her sit in the garage and be killed with that sort of kindness! Daniel: Life was over sometime in the early eighties when I did my first set of 308 heads while working in a local race shop. At that point I hadn't seen anything as pretty and vowed right then and there that someday I would have my own. Times up... Theo: Westford, eh? I got all growed up over in Boxboro. My brother still lives there and works for Littleton Electric as a line guy. Isn't Verell from Groton too? Jeez, I've got to visit you guys the next time I'm back east... Again, thanks for all your kind words! Rob & Jody
Very nice car! Take your time and get everything fixed just right, then you'll really appreciate the car. All the best Norm
Good deal! I was next to a green Platinum Winning GTS at the FFQC. It's a great color. You're probably spot on to suspect the distributors. Verify your advance and BURN SOME GAS! Welcome......... Blue '77 308GTB over here, next to the Ferrari Art Car!!!!!!
yeah nice color. i saw that car on the dealer site a few days ago. i really like ferraris in non-red colors. enjoy!! john
Moku, Our cars were similar...mine had NEVER had a major service, only fluids, and had 15k miles as well. Still ran fine, but here is what I did to make it ready to drive regularly: rebuild carbs Crane electronic ignition new coolant hoses new fuel hoses (esp the filler neck hose!) Full major service, new belts, tensioners, change all fluids Recharge A/C I would change the brake hoses too...you can get a set for less than $100 delivered from here: http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/ Then drive and enjoy!
My red 1977 308 GTB welcomes you to the club!! I saw that car last week on the FoH lot. Glad you got it.... Greg
Is that a Ferrari color or aftermarket? I wanted a black Miata until I saw Montego blue in full sun. The green metal flake glowed like emerald w/in the blue. It took my breath. Yours looks similar SWEET! http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/679438/2
