What we need is a deep recession. These tender little buttercups from your first paragraph have sponged off society and their parents their entire life. This is their normal. A recession where they won't be paid to fluff around will re-set their entitlement compass.
The ones who ended up on pensions, living in rubbish housing, never achieved the norm have /failed gucked relationships and despise those of us who HAVE achieved in our lives both in lifestyle and relationships. We call'em the hatters, a clear sign of one is ...........they normally have no pets, no friends and eat Red Rooster.
You have to live through the 90s recession to know… I’d two pay cuts of my measly pay yet I was thankful of a job..all of $17k per year
I agree but ultimately the bank of mum and dad will always be there. And they know it. A recession will barely impact them. One of my best mates has three kids. Aged re 15-25. They are genuinely nice people but it’s obvious they know they don’t really have to do anything. The older ones have bummed around getting useless arts degrees and made no real effort to get a career going. Happy to do menial jobs here and there but no genuine drive. They know that their dad will soon be handing them millions so what’s the point? In the meantime while enjoying a lifestyle most people could never dream about they take up every lefty cause imaginable. Climate change, gay marriage, transgender rights, BLM, you name it. They’re probably front and centre at pro Palestine rallies too for all I know. That’s their good fortune so good on them, I guess. It’s just an observation that others who have had to actually go out and sink or swim through their own efforts seem far more connected to reality at a younger age.
I think it all comes down to parenting and what are perceived expectations. All 3 of my girls are extremely motivated and hardworking. My eldest is 26 and bought a property without my help a couple of years ago. No 2 daughter ran her own fashion business while at Uni and now works full time as a fashion designer. No 3 is a bit of a leftie but had a part time job since age 15 and is very independent. None of my girls are expecting or waiting for an inheritance and are happy to carve their own path in life. I guess what I’m saying is that Mel and I did an amazing parenting job
I grew up as left as they come in the country, well, as left as the Young Country Party was .. The parents of a mate of mine were communist school teachers. I don't think I knew anyone who voted Labor.
Excellent work. They sound fantastic. Parenting is no doubt a big part but I also reckon choice of school plays a part. These modern namby-pamby lefty woke schools have a lot to answer for. I have a theory that any school where the teacher encourages six year olds to call them by their first name is likely to produce a bunch of entitled spoilt brats with no concept of respect. Then again, I don’t even have kids so WTF do I know?
Schools play a part for sure but my experience is that most schools including private schools lean towards the left. I went to an inner city public school full of ultra left wing teachers. Most of my school friends are probably centre left, those who weren’t successful in life are extremely left and I think that’s part of the equation.
Thankfully my daughter hasn’t gone through that. Though she tells me some of my jokes aren’t funny and could be seen as racist/ not politically correct????? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I enjoyed this article. It's a criticism of the book Sapiens, but contains all sorts of interesting details of how and why humans developed. Note: Sapiens is still worth reading. https://web.archive.org/web/20211203050910/https://www.newenglishreview.org/custpage.cfm?sec_id=189085
