That is a sweet guitar, but maybe not for the purist. My view of it was formed the first time I saw it at a rehersal venue in NYC about 10 years ago. I was sitting next to John Cale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cale) of Velvet Underground fame who had a black one, and I was like, what kind of guitar is that!??! since I had never seen one before. He thought it was the greatest , played well, and he said it never went out of tune. Are there other famous artists that play the Rainsong?

I just acquired this Paul Reed Smith Custom 22 with Moon Inlays:

According to their website, some highlights:

Steve Miller (Steve Miller Band), Rodger Fisher and Ann Wilson (Heart), Geoffrey Townsend (Alan Parsons Project), John McEuen (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band), Matt Malley (Counting Crows), Daryl hall (Hall and Oates), etc, etc.

Mucked around with it in the studio last night. The high register is pretty amazing and very well defined - maybe a little brighter than I am used to. A little (very little) flat through the midrange, but still very defined. Surprizingly good bass with tight response. Much better for fast and hard playing than the delicate stuff, but melodic even on a couple of classical numbers we tried. Really good for jamming rock-n-roll chords, with a vioce that comes through over a small room with 4 other players.

Certainly not quite the depth or warmth of my Walnut Bodied Taylor (which cost 5 times as much), but $ for $ as good as any Martin or Taylor I've owned or played. Not to mention that the Carbon Fiber chassis is zero maintenance. They suggest the occasional touch up with wax or quick detailer. Also, after 2.5 hours of playing it was dead on, on tune, even though I was seating a new set of strings.

I would say that I am very impressed, so far. I was thinking that I could add a small Ferrari decal on the CF pick guard, to make it perfect! Hope that they don't sent the Trademark police after me.

Add that decal and change the Rainsong to Ferrari and you have just doubled the price of that guitar!! Great Idea. I might have to get one myself, been thinking about it since that conversation with Cale.

Nicholas (or any other guitarist that might be interested in checking it out):

If you'd like to come by or borrow it - and strum on it for a few hours - let me know. So far it has proven to be wonderful. It really opened up once the strings had a chance to set. I'd put it head to head with any comprably priced Martin (no not our Martin - he is much more expensive) or Taylor. As they say in their advertising, the thing never needs to be tuned (even though it has an on-board tuner). Except for a minor tweak here and there - which might just as well be my ears changing from day to day - it is always close enough to just pick up and play.
