I have always rooted for the backmarker teams such as Minardi and Arrows but at some point you have to become realistic and start focusing on safe driving and certain standards.

F1 has always been a mix of superpower teams and small underdogs. No one will forget teams like Tollman, Arrows, and even Lotus which even in it's heyday was a small team.

But at this stage Minardi is a safety concern. Freisacher caused nearly 3 wrecks during the race and the cars themselves couldn't make the 107% rule if we stretched it to 115% rule.

I am also getting tired of Stoddard's whining and the bull**** he pulled this weekend. He basically played a game of bluff and lost. He could have had both cars in 2005 trim before the race but choose to play the "we ain't got the money" game.

I am glad Ferrari and the FIA stuck to their guns. At some point you say enough is enough. Can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.

Freisacher was a danger to other drivers in F3000 (remember when he took out Townsend Bell and then had the nerve to approach him in the pits screaming like a little kid). Freisacher and a Minardi is a huge combination of danger waiting to happen.

It's time Paul Stoddard shut the hell up and either spend the money to build a car that can meet the 107% rule or keep his mouth shut and move to F3000 ( or maybe go back to running that dismal airline of his).

I've always respected Minardi when Mr. Minardi ran the team and even after he left but I am getting sick of Stoddard's complaining and constant whining for hand out's.

It's time to put up or shut up Paul.

I know what you mean. I don't want Minardi to leave, but at some point they need to adhere to the rules.

    Jon,

I completely agree. Paul has lost my respect completely. In fact what he is doing is completely unAustralian!

Please leave Paul Stoddart and go and play in your OWN sand pit!

    Pete
ps: I am going to email the Minardi team and ask for an explanation for Paul being a complete wanker!

While Stoddart's latest stunts have shown little class and professionalism, in the past Minardi has played its role in F1. Some good drivers have had their F1 break with this team.
I don't think Minardi should leave F1, it's time for Stoddart to stop the whining and get to work.... and yes may be bring back Giancarlo Minardi to run the team again.

I agree, it is time for Minardi to pack it in.

I rooted for them for a long time, and I'd be sad to see them go, but unfortunately Paul Stoddart is making them into the laughing stock of the pitlane, and doesn't seem to mind dragging the reputation of F1 down with him every chance he gets.

The interview where he said his court appearance was a "wake up call to F1" to reduce costs was appalling. He is a whiny baby, he does his advertisers a disservice, he continually is the thorn in the side of the sport, and he isn't even fun to watch or competitive.

Can you even imagine if you were a sponsor of theirs? The guy is continually getting bad PR, he stubbornly refuses to keep his cars on track (costing his advertisers huge sums in lost exposure), and he pulls ads on a whim and runs to the press badmouthing his sponsors if there is any sort of disagreement. He does the same to the FIA - piss him off and he runs to the media like a little beyotch.

I would NEVER sponsor Minardi. They are completely unprofessional with Stoddart at the helm. He needs to step aside and let someone come on who will actually try to be competitive in F1, or he needs to take the team out of F1 alltogether. Constant media trashing of the FIA and other teams, constant whining about money, consistently abysmal performances, and a whoring-out of F1 (wanna be an F1 driver? How much $$ you got?) make Stoddart and Minardi the "team to remove" in all of F1.

Don't go away mad Paul, just go away!

Minardi have to be given credit for trying for all these years and they are still there.

This latest stunt has hurt the whole of F1. Either you play by the rules or you simply don't play AT ALL.

Do not bring your own problems to the whole world thru a court order etc.

YOU KNEW THE RULES AHEAD OF TIME LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.

Sell a airplane or two and FIX your cars.

If I had anything to say it would be this:

    SHUT UP
    QUIT WHINING
    FIX YOUR CARS
    AFTER YOUR CARS ARE FIXED
    RACE THEM
    AND STILL SHUT UP
IF YOU CAN'T OR WON'T DO ANY OF THE ABOVE

    LEAVE F1

Well that's what infuriates me. He had the cash and resources to produce the 2005 spec car. In fact in my opinion they had already spent the cash to develop and test such car.

Paul was simply bluffing about not having the resources to produce a 05 spec car. But when his bluff was called he suddenly produced the modifications in record time.

He was playing a game of chicken with the FIA hoping they would buy his story and he would gain a competitive edge.

If after turning down his request he then was unable to race in 05 spec form because of money problems I would have had more respect for him but he flat out (no pun intended) lied about his resources and ability to meet the 05 specs.

    Regards,

    Jon

What's the mood in the streets of Australia, Pete?

We know where you stand (and I agree with that), but what do the Aussie papers and media say? They're probably full of praise for Webber and ignore the ugly news Paul started. I also wonder what the mood in Italy is. Paul brought shame over Faenza.

Hmmm, I believe they are worried about loosing their GP ... if you believe the news media. Ron Walker definitely looked concerned to me and he runs the show ... but I think they will bend over and take it somewhere ;) to keep it.
Hmmm, reserved praise for Webber. I personally thought Williams fncked his race with poor strategy. They should have early stopped him and tried a short fill or something. He had good race pace and should have been on the podium ... thus I feel disappointed and so does Webber.
Yes I imagine they are not happy, being proud, emotional Italians.

    Reality check.
There is no threat of the GP and other events being withdrawn from Australia, there never was. The contractual obligations of F1 are very clear and the financial penalties are such that our mate Bernie would have to intercede.
PS, to gain the injunction, would have been required to demonstrate that he WAS NOT asking the court to allow him to break the rules. My understanding is that he argued that the agreements under the Concorde agreement took precedent over the FIA rules, which the court at face value upheld.
I believe the real issue was that Minardi had not been able todo any testing of the new parts and were rightly concerned about using them without the required testing.
That said PS made a complete fool of himself with his conduct. If he had publicly stated his true position from the outset there would never have been the sort of repercussions that have been seen.
The local press that I have read pretty much reflects dissapointment of his conduct, based on the threat to cancel the race and his demonstrated ability to comply with the regulations after all. Basically he has been caught out as the boy who cried wolf.
Rightly or wrongly he has made a fool of himself and brought disrepute to the sport. Shame on you!

Why did he not simply communicate this ... then the whole country would have been behind him, instead he played the Minardi versus the all conquering Ferrari team card. Wrong move!

Also why did the press not understand what was going on ... ie, communicate the above.
    Totally true!

I suppose the only reason why MINARDI stays
is because of the pay for drive scheme
    Isn't it?
I wonder how much is the price for having a seat on a Minardi F1

I just hope he doesn't do to Minardi what Walkinshaw ultimately did to Arrows. The other team heads need to have an intervention and sit his butt down for a little straightening out.

No, the only reason Minardi is still in F1 is because mr. Ecclestone has a deal with all circuits where he actually garantuess that at least 20 cars will participate.

LOL, remember that Minardi is the only team left for our poor Dutch drivers! First they had Jos Verstappen, now Christan Albers....
