http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/comment/columnists/lifestyle-columnists/shari-low/2009/01/01/it-s-time-to-button-it-86908-21007883/ It's Time To Button It Jan 1 2009 Shari Low 2008'S MOST Popular P.I.S.H award (Progress Incurs Sporting Haverings) is hereby awarded to Formula 1 driver Jenson Button, who had something to say about Danica Patrick becoming the first female F1 driver for 30 years, a move that could open the door to other women competing in the event in the future. "A girl with big boobs wouldn't be comfortable in the car and the mechanics wouldn't concentrate." As we said at the time - Jenson, love, the 1950s are on the phone and they'd like their sexist tosh back. Go Button! you don't need a MBE.
Button is one of the luckiest guys in the world to have made it to F-1.... I think with comments like this he is not doing him self any favors with potential sponsors etc.... with his track record... he will be lucky to survive in F-1 this year.
Didn't he say that like a year ago? It sounded like it was meant more like a joke, what's the big deal now?
Button is, and has always been, an example of how someone with little talent and a good publicist can go anywhere. As the former honorary mayor of Key West once said, "All you need in life is a big ego and a good sex drive. Brains don't mean sh*t." What a joke.
Little talent? Listen, Jenson is no Hamilton or Vettel, but let's not exaggerate his "lack of talent". He's had the upper hand on Rubens the last couple years, and when the car changes yet again, this time it suited Rubens a bit more. Rubens, by his own admission, is driving better than ever, and he's no slouch. Personally, I would rate Jenson as above average for an F1 driver. He'd get out paced by Alonso, Hamilton, Vettel, Kubica etc. but he can easily match the likes of Rosberg, Webber, Trulli, Sutil, Glock etc.
That "little talent" driver has whipped all of his teammates, every year with the exception being Rubens this year. And many of his teammates were not slouches.... Jacques Villeneuve amongst others.
Lighten up folks. I'm no button fan, believe me but if you can't see that as a light hearted joke there is something seriously wrong.
not to mention that danica did it to herself by posing in all those maxim spreads. if she wants to be taken seriously that's not the way for a woman to do it. god i hate danica so much. the most overrated driver ever in the history of motorsport.
Except, of course, the two world championships of Mika Hakkinen and the year following when Hakk almost pulled the triple.
Guys: I have taken a few shots at Jens & DC. A lot of it is their arrogance, but much of it is passive. I have met DC a few times. He was nice enough, but deep down, I felt that he was always looking past me. I saw someone who would settle for second place instead of fighting for first (and I know the maxim about 'first finishing.') My wrinkle on that maxim is that to win the WDC, you have to be a winner. I didn't see that in DC. As for Jens, I simply got tired of all his publicity mongering. Kimi wins the WDC and F1 magazine has a cover article on Jens about how "NEXT YEAR IS MY YEAR." This was a never-ending story with Jens. It is passive for him to garner such press when he was clearly not one of the top drivers, but I guess I wouldn't turn down the magazine cover. It is simply that I didn't like it. (As my son says -- I am keepin' it real right now.) Compare this to Lewis. I see arrogance in Lewis, too, but in Lewis, it is more of a confidence and drive. I am not doing a good job of explaining it, but Lewis seems to be a winner--I am not his fan, for sure, but I believe he is a winner. When Lewis loses, he is pissed off and he is mad. When DC and Jens spin out or get caught in the kitty litter, they calmly get out of the car and seem glad that the day's work is over. Go back to the motorhome, take a shower and get a cold drink. Lewis sulks and looks for ways to improve. I respect Lewis--grudgingly, but I respect him. Can't say the same for the others. Oh, and one more thing . . . with Lewis, the attitude paid off. He won he WDC. The other two . . . .
I understand your point, but now you're talking about something different than his abilities. The reason Jenson and DC look so calm after crashing out or mechanical problems, is because they don't have competitive cars. On the best of days, they can only hope for a few points. Lewis on the other hand, has an opportunity to win races and championships, of course he'd take things more seriously. If Jense and DC got upset all the time from everything that went wrong, they'd be chronic depression cases. If you want proof, go look at some old footage of DC, when he used to get pissed off when things went wrong, the difference is, he had a car capable of winning grand prix. Getting pissed about retiring from a race should take a back seat to the fact that you're on an uncompetitive team with a crap car. You have to try and look at things from their perspective, not just using someone who's relatively new to F1, in one of the best cars, and fighting for the title as a barometer.
Agree. As much as I am glad she brings attention to open wheel racing, she is WAAAY overrated by some. When she was popping off at some of the Champ Car drivers when they reunited, I almost puked. B#tch wins ONE race and now what is she the spokesperson for how to drive an Indy Car? She walks down pitlane at Indy like she is going to punch somebody, if any guy ever punched her back they would go to jail. Just calm down honey, and win some RACE(S) before you start ripping on guys who would take you to the woodshed in the same equipment. Sorry to hijack the thread, but she does suck as a driver. Now back to the Button bashing MB
You are right, I stand corrected... Buttons rookie year they both were at Benetton together and Button had difficulty getting the car to work (and Fisi too - the car was horrible that year!). You'd think Jens would have some experience with horrible cars to bring to Honda this past year
