Okay, I need to get out of China and have my head examined. I've just started down the path of getting all three of my Ferraris restored. Here is what I am looking at:

365 needs paint and I'm going to replace the leather at the same time. Mechanically she's strong, just tired of a small leak around the rear window. Rear glass is delaminated and I need to find a replacement somewhere. You might say that nobody likes these cars and they're not worth it. Well, there aren't too many of them left and this is the first Ferrari I owned, the car I drove on my honeymoon and the first Ferrari my wife ever drove. It's part of the family and it is still my favorite.

Mongo is fine minus the ignition switch needing replacement and the front seats needing new leather. Minor detailing is needed and can wait until I return, but we'll get the seats done this year.

The 308 has rust in the doors and could use a respray after the door dings are fixed. Needs a belt change and water pump rebuild but is running strong right now.

I've asked my mechanic to start getting quotes for the non mechanical issues and a parts list of everything he needs by the weekend. I figured that if I go ahead and start with these projects, it will keep me from getting killed by Spicy for looking for Ferrari number 4.

I'm not planning on doing Pebble Beach quality work as I am going to keep these cars as nice drivers and not show cars, but I am going to make sure that the work is presentable.

Now, you're probably asking why I didn't just go out and buy a garage queen example of each of these. I'll tell you why, because Ferraris are meant to be driven. All of these were and all I'm doing is getting them ready for another generation of service.

    Yep, I'm nuts.

Have you ever considered bringing them out to the Far East to do the work? You could probably get all 3 in one 40 foot container and save a huge amount overall. Call me if you want to discuss the idea.

I considered it, but then that would give me incentive to stay.

I want out of this place so bad it hurts.

Actually you and Spiceglider sound like my idea of 'normal' people - how do you stand to be away from your cars?!? I've been thinking about going to live in Italy for a bit but the one thing that holds me back is having to leave my cars behind! Wonder if psychiatrists have a name for our disease?

Quit yer beefin. I've spent 24K on a 19K 308 and I've another 6K in upgrades lined up & with enough wine, I think I might actually be somewhat normal upstairs. Since I can diagnose you with no clear illness, there is no need for a cure...

Although as a prophylaxis, you might take one Diablo and call me in the morning MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

    Dear Mr. Amateur Anonymous,

Your small change spending on the 308 clearly shows how cheap you truly can be. Some of us, including Yours Truly, has expenditures that greatly shadow your feeble attempt. Remember, some us desire changing/tweaking nearly everything in the car to squeeze out that last 0.008% of performance.

Naturally it would have made sense to simply buy a new Lotus and achieve a better performing car WITH WARRANTY, though we are not certifiably sane. On a similar note, buying a Noble would (perhaps) be the sanest move, yet sanity is not something to ever enter such actions. EVen at $49k spent on your 308, you are tens of thousands short. When you decide to get serious (read: insane) about the 308 feel free to let us know.

    Sincerely Yours,

    S.R.R.

Hey I havent even gotten around to rustproofing the doors yet. That's another fifty wazillion dollars...and then I forgot to mention a set of Recarros, a set of 16 inch Ronals and the fact that I could be talked into buying a 1976 glass one.

    umm,

let me check back later. I think i might be going slightly crazy. Or maybe I'm already slightly crazy and might be going very crazy instead.

sigh. Why can't i just be happy with a Honda minivan like everyone else?

    :D

No, Birdman. If he had bought another one he would have gone off something, but it wouldn't have been the deep end. :)

I thought a new Honda minivan was more than I spent on any one of my cars?
