    Hi there

Do you still have your 550 ?

I’ve been trying to trace as many Schumacher 550 early models as possible and so far I’ve only found 2 (they are basically identical except colour). Even the chassis numbers are very close.

    Yours is also similar.

    Cheers Ralph

I have heared that the red steering wheel is a detail some people in the arab countries did as it was considdered to be more «royal»...... I think it looks actually quite cool. I had fun reading this old thread today. I remember this car was on sale before I bought mine in 2013. It is indeed a very rare and beautiful car. There was a guy in Paris who ordered a custom Maserati Ghibli SSS (one S more than normal) around 1970 to be the absolute pinacle of Ghiblis. And I have actually had a ride in that Ghibli. Didn’t the 365 BB also have six tail pipes? I can confirm the thread starter’s experiences with the need for ground clearance in south of Europe. Because of the terrain and the speed bumps, a standard car is at the limit. My standard 550 is perfectly set up and is on the limit of what is possible to drive around in. I have got used to it now that I live down here. I also want a Diablo, but that car would be immensly impractical in many situations. To cruise around in Europe is the absolute best thing to do with a 456/550/575. They just fit in and eat up kilometers faster than you like to admit. A convoy of these cars sometime during spring or fall would be absolutely a very fun thing to do. I NEVER see any of these cars on the roads anymore. Everybody gives thumbs up and apprechiate them.

Cool. Normally most cars sound better with only one pipe out of the muffler instead of two, so would be interesting to hear these. When having one pipe going to two, the Y can reduce the frequenzy where the Y is. But it might increase the volume too. This on the other hand has probably three pipes exiting out of one or more chambers. I doubt Köenig just welded a third pipe on the outside of the muffler...

Anyone have any pictures without the cover or an exploded diagram of how they welded the shoulder harness box?

If it is a factory steering wheel I would just leave the color. in 20 years it will be the thing that sets the car apart from all the other 3,000 plus 550's. But if not factory , Then I would change it really fast.

Erik- One reason for twin pipes is an exit for each pipe of a valved system.

Natwhatever- Was that comment really necessary?

Yes that’s true. But still, many cars have twin outlets. Usually, they are smaller in diameter which also change the sound. But with two, the flow is still good. Usually, it is only the outside chrome tip that is big so it looks powerful... So when adding a third pipe, it probably adds more flow too. I have been thinking a lot about exhaust for my car the last days. When hearing 365s etc., they are not super loud, but they have a fresh engine sound where you hear the cylinders. I believe it is because there are no catalyzers so that the pulses from the cylinders manage to get more through and out the back. Therefor, I considder to take off the Hyperflow cats and add cat delete pipes and valved sport mufflers instead. And maybe add the original center muffler as that one actually make a fine «whiiine» at certain rpms. and will take away the crispest parts Of the sound as it has some muffling in it. The 550 center section is much smaller than the 456 center which muffled quite a bit. To go without cats + straight center pipes (which is on now) and straight through sport mufflers will probably be too loud. And I need the car to be fairly quiet when I am on the phone with customers. I can then change headers later. It is a bit expencive for me to change headers right now on this side of the winter. The cat delete pipes sells for around 1k through Eurospares so not too expencive. I wonder if this car with the six tail pipes had something else in front of it? It should make no difference other that a little more deep burble at idle, by just adding the rear cans. Makes not much sence.

Erik- Purely cosmetic, I would think. Likely all the tailpipes came from one pipe since the ones in the photo are unvalved.

Natwhatever- Mine was not nasty, yours was. Keep nasty comments to yourself. Better ways to say you did not like a steering wheel.

Glad your case is closed, whatever that means.

It was factual in my opinion, nasty is your interpretation.I agree I could have said it in a nicer way. Case closed is I’m done losing my time talking to u about this and getting this thread off it’s initial content.

What Taz is saying is that comments that add value to a conversation are welcomed. People add value by contributing facts which are not otherwise known, or offering informed opinion based on factual knowledge, and sometimes by wit. Saying something is nasty or ugly is childish and doesn’t do anything for a thread. You don’t like the steering wheel, which is your privilege, but we don’t need to know and it just creates a negative and rude vibe.

Anyone can post that they don’t like stuff on any thread, the fact that we don’t, is generally what distinguishes Fchat from most of the rest of the internet.

I don’t disagree about the steering wheel, I just wouldn’t have said it.
