    That's my point.

I agree. But the reality... you go into a room to see a patient. His skin is "dark". You say "are you from Africa?" "No, I am from America." Now what?

I don't get to see the patient. The computer cannot accept 100 different ethnic origins. But there are medical conditions that are genetically linked to skin color not citizenship. For example, the normal values of glomerular filtration rate (kidney function) is different for blacks vs. whites. If I am running a lab in England, do I say "African Englishman." ? It doesn't matter where you are registered to vote. And I don't see why it is such a crime to just say what you see; in this case it is the important piece of data.

I certainly mean absolutely NO offense to anyone if I say black. It should be a non-issue, but I guess I am helping make it an issue right now.

When he won the Canadian GP, didn't ESPN say he was the first African-American to win a GP ?

    Yes.

Is there anything on that car, or on that team that is American ?

"FULL" black African American, must be some level of "blackness" that I am unfamiliar with! (definately not on the form) I dont think any Americans are "FULL" anything! (just bustin your chops zero)
I saw Hamiltons father, and he is definately black, but I have never heard of him being referred to as American.

Thats how I remember it. I believe it was Pruett that he punched. I also recall he was supposed to make his NASCAR debut at Talledega, but sometime between his full page story (with pictures) in USA Today, and the race, it just didnt happen.

The logic is "bent". If it wasnt Willie T. then there would have been no Cosby sponsorship, therefore, "no ride". I agree he was just wasting gas, and wearing-out tires, but he had to qualify just like everybody else, and the clock didnt know what he looked like.

    silly, but I laughed.

    Just my .02, CMJ

I hate how if a black person carries with any type of intelligent or class they're considered not black anymore as if it would be IMPOSSIBLE for any black person to not act like an ignorant piece of ****.

Didn't Willie T. also hit and kill a corner worker in a Champ street race on live TV? I remember seeing the accident. A car was being pushed off the track and another car (Ribbs) came up on them and the work ran across the track and was nailed. Anyone else remember?

Sorry just saw this in the Wiki piece...

"Also in 1990, Ribbs was involved in an unfortunate incident where a track marshall was killed. The track worker, Jean Patrick Hein, was pushing another car off the track when he unfortunately darted in front of Ribbs car, was run over, and killed."

I recall it being the Champcar race in Vancouver when he hit the marshall, freaky thing is years later, he was invited to an indoor oval midget/sprint car race in Indiana ? where upon he tangled with another car and ended up running into a crew member. Can't remember if it was fatal or not as I do believe it was in a mid 90's Sports Car International article. After winning the IMSA GTO championship with Dan Gurney's AAR outfit, I was rooting for him to succeed in Champ Car and Trans Am.

If I recall correctly, it was on the entrance to a chicane and the driver got caught by his left rear wheel. Tragic.

Ted, if it is the same incident I recollect, TV caught everything and it was truly ghastly. Very tragic.

I agree with you 1000%, but the thing is, I have seen many more black people treat the 'intelligent looking' black person worse than they do the stereotypical black person.

I guarantee you if there were two identical black guys - one in a RL Polo shirt, Dockers, top siders and a rolex, he will be treated MUCH differently than an 'identical' black guy were 'prison pants' (jeans that are 20x too big), a FUBU shirt, baseball cap on sideways, and expensive sneakers..... and not necessarily better.

100 agree with you bud. I have seen many more WHITE people treat the intelligent looking white person worse than they do the stereotypical WHITE person.
I also guarantee you if there were two identical WHITE guys - one in a RL Polo shirt, Dockers, top siders and a Rolex, he will be treated MUCH differently than an "identical" WHITE guy if he wore !prison pants" (jeans that are 20x to big, trailer park gear), a FUBU shirt, baseball cap on sideways, and expensive sneakers.......and not necessarily better.:D But wait, does that sound stupid or obvious????..:D

and i hate it how people make colour, creed or nationality an issue.

who cares if LH or this Ribbs guy are black - first an foremost theyre racing drivers, colour doesnt play a part.

I'm no fan of chauvinism either, but you can't ignore nationality. It is the most important factor in F1 (and probably other sports as well): Just look at the TV viewer numbers. They went downhill in Germany after MS' departure and sky high in the UK after Hamilton's early success this season. Same goes for grandstand tickets. Like it or not, it is all about nationality. Maybe not for true fans of the sport, but for the paying masses.
