"Flying instructor Alistair Mathie, 67, had just landed the Piper J3C-65 Cub at an airstrip when he had a "momentary lapse in concentration" and walked into the revolving blades."

"Figures showed that since 1991 there had been 15 accidents involving light aircraft, 10 of which occurred while trying to start the engine by hand swinging the propeller and five when passengers or ground personnel were hit by rotating propellers.

Speaking at the time of his death Peter Gill, 67, secretary of the International Auster Club said Alistair Mathie, 67, was "the best of the best" in the flying world."

Was just thinking about this the other day when I noticed that a YAK? flying out of our local field had the prop tips painted in 2 stripes (hello & white). Seems like a good idea to help call attention to the spinning prop on the ground......seems not to be common......
Is the 'colored circle' so apparent in flight that it is distracting?
Proven no to be of any value?
    Other?

Edit: also reminded me of the woman in Texas? earlier this year who walked into the prop after departing the plane........

Always a good idea to NEVER let passengers out of an airplane until the prop has stopped.

Or to be walking around the plane yourself with the engine still running.

I couldn't figure out how he got it tied down safely with it running, as a matter of fact.

I don't think that these had a "parking brake" to lock the main brakes.
