guys, two questions. where exactly are the jack points on a G? pictures with pointers would be awesome, if possible. i do see two areas underneath the car that are circles near the rear. but don't see that at the front. 2nd question is, what do you use to lift the car? i have one of those shop-based industrial jacks where you use a lever and then twist to lower. but the problem is that the car is too low, and i can't roll the thing far enough under the car to meet the circled areas (assuming that's the right spot). any clues on where to get something else (portable hopefully) would be appreciated. thanks. h
Go to www.**********.com and search, I posted a thread there about it and user Doltmo has good inout on it with pics!
Sears has a Craftsman 4" jack that will fit, it's a great jack, costs about $150. I use it on the G and the Radical.
sweet. thanks, guys. i checked out **********, but the thread regarding jacking points doesn't display a picture. did they lose it during their multiple server crashes? if anyone has that picture, would appreciate a pointer. thanks.
It will be semi-obvious if you dig around under the car; I can go snap some pics if you need, let me know.
i do see the circles at the back of the car, but they also talking about jacking at the middle and lifting both wheels at once, but not clear where in the middle. and i can't quite tell where in the front of the car the jack points are. if you could point that out, i would be grateful. thanks.
The rear of the car can be raised by placing a floor jack on the rear frame cross member, directly under the transmission. This frame member is very study and can support the car without harm. This gets both wheels off the ground in one easy operation. The front can be lifted (one side at a time) by placing a floor jack in the spot shown in the 2nd photo below. This is a reinforced area of the frame that can withstand the load. Most jacks will not go low enough to get under the car. If you have an '05 or later, activate the front end lift first. This makes it much easier. Otherwise, drive the front wheels up onto a 2x4 or some other block of wood to give you some more space under the car. I suggest the use of a small wood block on the top of the jack (as shown in the first photo) to spread out the pressure and avoid any nicks to protective coatings on the metal undercarriage. Is that pic from a spyder? I noticed the little hose poking out there on the bottom; I have those on mine and thought maybe they were drains from either the retractable window area or the top storage bin, but was never positive on that.
No, that last picture is the front end of a coupe. The front underside of the spyder should look exactly the same. The hose sticking out under the car is what drains the sump at the base of the windshield. Next time you wash your car, watch where all the water goes when you hose off the windshield. It would make sense that the spyder would have a similar drain for the top; I don't know.
Hmm, there may be some up there too that I didn't notice but I've got a hose on each side of the spyder behind the driver that looks the same? Although that pic looks like the rear; do they route the front windshield drain hoses back there?
thanks so much, Doltmo for reposting those pics. that's very helpful. and raising the frong (i have an '06) sounds like a great idea to get the jack underneath the front part of the car. as far as the tubes up front, i believe they may also bleed out excess condensation that may be generated by the AC. i remember a time when it drained quite a bit of water after a long drive on a hot day and my lambo tech indicated it was probably just water from the AC. i wouldn't be surprised if it also drained the water from the front windshield. very quick/easy way to find that out of course.
