Rumours here in the UK is that the sale of Aston Martin hasn't been enough to make any impact in Ford's financial problems, and that they are reconsidering once more to sell Jaguar and Land-Rover together.

Apparently, for technical reasons -they share platforms?, the 2 companies have to be sold as one entity to be attractive.

Strangely Land-Rover has reported increasing profits lately, while Jaguar has suffered more loses. The Jaguar X type is largely blamed for the make's poor image and substential loses.

The business press says that the purchase is unlikely to attract another carmaker (why?), and there is a cloud over the 2 brands' future if they can't find a buyer other than an asset stripper.

    Watch for these Chinese!!! LOL

The only thing that will save FORD is not selling these units but selling the stinking family out of the business to a private equity firm. The family has to go and they are the only ones who have any say in voting. (Class A share are only voting shares and are owned by Ford Family, foundations for the ford family, Firestone family, foundations for the firestone family and very few others) none of these shares have changed hands in 50 years

Not one of them has any clue about the business any more.
The company is falling in upon itself.

Why doesnt Ford get rid of Mercury? I have not seen one new Mercury on the road. Ford should fase out Mercury and then place their luxury efforts all on Lincoln.

It would be funny if BMW bought Land Rover again..

I agree, although based on how the Porsche/Piech family has prospered in Germany it seems that a car-savvy family can succeed.

+1. Mercury is Ford's Oldsmobile. What do they make again?
