Thinking of my buying one that ticks all the boxes. 3.8 manual overdrive power diff wire wheels 30,000 miles from new. Anyone know the correct exhaust system looks like?
As I recall it's sort of big Healey-esque. Twin outlets on the left rear side? I'm sure you can reference an SNG Barratt parts diagram to be certain. The Mk.II is a great car. Had a '67 340 and enjoyed every minute. Cheers, Aaron
Great car, especially if it is a '66 with all synchro box. Look for the correct exhaust on the websites of Manners etc., a lot of them have it wrong. A 30k mile un-touched car would be a really nice find!
Rob, I see you have been having a great time with the Tasman Rally, and the Black Jag. I owned a 1962 Mk II 3.8, wth all the right specs., as you have listed. Wish now in retrospect, I would have kept and restored it. It was battleship gray, and without a 1st gear synchro, I think these were called Moss gearboxes. I don't recall any real disadvantage driving the car without a 1st gear synchro, made beautiful sounds from it. The exhaust system, exited on the left side, with twin-staggered pipes, the outer one being slightly shorter, than the inner, and cut on a slight angles, for a pleasing visual effect. The 3.8 Mk II, is still my favorite Jaguar sedan, to date. It would make a perfect pair with your E-type. They are scarce over here, as most of them are rust damaged and very expensive to put right again, as they were difficult to keep up with, when they were newer. Good luck in your search and hope your health stays good. I've been having some battles with mine, but the "Good LORD," has kept me going. G'day Rob. Ciao...Paolo
Hi Buddy long time no talk. Hope your health gets better. Always wanted a MK2 3.8,my dad had one new in about '61 carmen red with cream trim,3.8,manual with factory wires. This car is on this site www.classicthrottleshop.com.au regards Rob B.
True, but the looks were spoilt with the re-design. I ran a 420 for a couple of years, maunual o/d gearbox, it was a hoot, fast and very comfy, but I also had a 3.8 MOD Mk2 in the garage, so the 420 went. Mechanically a far superior car, but nothing in saloon-world can touch on the looks of the Mk2.
I agree. That line down the front fenders into the little lights, and spats at the rear is hard to beat. The drop down wood tray's in the rear is also a nice touch.
Rob, Thanks for your kind comments. That is a beautiful Mk2!!! At $65000. it is high, but what do I know? I hope you can talk some reason into the selling price, and buy it, Ciao...Paolo
Looks like a very nice example, can't fault it on much. The dash-wood looks like it had a quick coat that wasn't sanded/polished very well, the HT leads appear to be routed wrong (or am I wrong?), other than that it looks as it should. Nice that all books etc are there, the proper jack in the right spot, but is the toolkit there? Top Dollar means top spec, which in terms of Mk2's means a '66 (all synchro box) in the right colour combo. This car obviously doesn't have the all synchro box, and I like the colour combo, but I'm not too sure about its' popularity. What's 60k Aussie in UKP?
37,000 pounds. its stock standard as per the period apart from 6 inch dayton wheels. IMO the wood is to much gloss, the underneath photos i have show a very clean 50 year old car. I'm keen to buy,but i've already got a wonderful high spec fast E-type. I guess what will it do for me the E will not?
Don't EVER sell the "Black Jag!" There is NOTHING a MK2, can do better, other than carry a few additional passengers. For half the price, you can drive a real nice Rolls or Bentley Saloon. But you have already done that. Did I read read that you recently bought a BMW 750iL saloon? There you have it, then. Perfection! Ciao...Paolo
Even if the car will be difficult to repeat, that is a boat-load of cash for a Mk2. I'd buy a perfect Double Six SIII or XJ12 for practical transport (had mine for 7 years, miss it dearly) and spend the rest on a fun car. Next to your long-legged E a 308 would be a nice companion, for example.
Although I like BB's, they are a totally different beast than a 308, but I remember the pics of your white BB with lunch on the driver's seat "nuff said. The point remains though, that for the money a lot of cars are available to you that would make you smile.
ex brother inlaws car,had a fortune spent on it,paint, trim and motor very pretty car early car with tacho.
It doesn't exist until we see pics Sounds nice, and makes for an easy choice if it is between that and a Mk2 Jaguar. Don't get me wrong, I love Mk2's, but some are so way overpriced that they simply don't make sense anymore.
