I'd like to hear from those who've owned or drove or known anyone that has owned one of these, particularily the 1997-1999 variety. How reliable are they? How do they drive? What do you think about them?

    Thanks.

Had a couple late model XKRs, but am familiar with earlier XK8s.

Google information on the problems they had with secondary tensioners and Nikasil lining. It's all well documented.

They are good beater cars once the first couple owners have taken the depreciation haircut. There are a lot more convertibles versus coupes out there, and you should know the convertible assembly is not exactly the pinnacle of technology.

Find the lowest mileage example you can find, put some new wheels on it (as the earlier 8s looked horrendous), ensure it's up-to-date on all its TSBs, then enjoy a car that nobody will be able to distinguish from an 2005 XK8.
